That's how all proof of residence is done in France. My driver's licence is not proof of residence (since they never expire, it has an address and a photo that are over 40 years old on it) and even my "green card" (well, the French equivalent...) is not, because I might have moved and not updated it. A recent, dated utility bill is about the only thing that is accepted when you have to prove where you live.
You have a point! Send me your list of what you think are appropriate tax payer funded expenditures, I'll sign off on it and we'll run in up the flagpole.
GA bill now goes to senate for agreement. It's toned down a bit. source. More on the voter ID requirement: 2nd source
So no evidence has ever emerged of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election (in fact, many experts have said it was one of the more secure elections) but Republicans continue to use it as an excuse to strangle voting rights? Motherfuckers.
Y'know, there's really no excuse for not having "go to this URL, type a unique code that's printed on your ballot, snap a picture of your driver's license with your phone and upload it" as an option if they want copies of people's ID. It's not like most people have copiers at home.
The Republicans will never admit it, but the leaders (I'm not talking about the sheeple who drink the kool-aid and eagerly swallow the propaganda) know very well that the problem is not voter fraud, it's that the voters voted the wrong way. Some of them have even said so pretty much openly. They cannot maintain their minority rule, if too many of the people can vote. Republicans are not just anti-Democratic in the sense of being opposed to the Democrats. They are clearly and explicitly anti-democratic in the sense of not wanting the rule of the majority to become the law of the land. That's why they oppose so many things that polls show consistently are approved by a majority of people (tighter gun control, national health care, mail-in voting...), and that's why they have made it a specific policy to attempt to make it as hard as possible to vote, especially for those with limited means (who would of course vote the wrong way).
“makes it a crime to offer food or water to voters waiting in lines” The pro-life party strikes again.
And we haven't even gotten to the part where they'll close down as many polling stations as possible in Black neighborhoods to make sure that Black voters have to spend hours in line, while the average white voter is in and out in less than 30 minutes.
Let’s not forget the part where the SoS is off the Board of Elections, their seat now filled by the legislature. Oh and the state board can now take over any county board that doesn’t return results it likes. The law should be struck down in its entirety, and the legislators who wrote it should kill themselves in shame. I’ll accept resignation as long as they stick a fork in an electrical socket afterwards. If they survive, fine.
I bet there will be an increased police presence near those polling stations as well to intimidate and enforce these new laws.
Because they've suppressed polling sites in urban, black areas, so the lines there are far longer than in the suburbs and rural areas that are mostly white. That's why it's a crime. It's giving comfort to people waiting 6+ hours to vote, and we can't have that, because they vote for the wrong party. You vote for the bad guys.
It is pretty obvious at this point that anyone who continues to vote Republican is supporting fascism. We have gone beyond the point where even the most blatant bad faith can pretend Republicans are honestly trying to do what is best for everyone. They are trying to do what is best for Republicans, period.
Hey, both parties are equally as bad because Democrats might try the same thing 100 years from now. Lanzman told me so.
You've been out of the US too long. Every, and I mean every Republican voter I question says they'd never vote Democrat because they're "baby killers" and want to take our guns. OF continues to dispute this, but doesn't offer any other reasons. So, I'm forced to go with the 80/20 rule.
Now would be a good time to boycott Coke products. That’s a boycott for the kids out there. Not wishing to cancel Coke out of existence, rather get them to use their enormous corporate clout to strongly denounce this unconscionable voter suppression bill.
It's really insane how people like OF will keep voting for them because they're so afraid the socialists are going to take their rifles.
Oh, no. This is normal human behavior. How many people are willing to admit that they're wrong about something? Especially when it's something that they've strongly believed (as opposed to having factual knowledge of). It's far easier to leap from one absurdity to another than it is to admit that one was wrong. Think about it, we've had any number of wars over religions, but nobody's gone to war over a theory of gravity. What's the difference? One will always rely on speculation and unprovable assertions, the other can be objectively tested and proven.
