I think people here were actually livid over the bullshit tactics the GOP were pulling, and I'm talking about a sizeable chunk of conservatives, too. Even the language on the ballot had been weasel worded by those assholes, but Ohioans saw through it, thankfully.
Young people don't vote. And those that do, are those like Federal Farmer who actively vote to strip rights from those they don't care for. Like I'm hopeful, don't get me wrong. But as one of the youngest posters on this board besides FF, I know that young people like to answer surveys but can't be bothered to vote. That's why we had assholes like Bush 2 and Trump as president.
Chances are a lot of mothers who vote republican have had an abortion or have a daughter they’ve driven to have an abortion and they know how much of a disaster it would be if abortion was illegal
Sadly, I doubt it. The sort of people who would vote absolutely against abortion, never think ahead or include themselves or their daughters with “that sort of thing”. It’s always “different” when they are in a situation that they voted against for someone else. No, it was liberals and libertarians in Ohio fighting this.
While youth turnout is a problem, in this case it's an exit poll so everyone surveyed was a voter. I haven't seen turnout numbers for this election broken down by age yet
That's generally how I figure it, too. When you get people to realize they can easily be subject to the same legislation, it can make them stop and think it through. The demographics for Ohio showed a significant number of conservatives voting in favor of abortion. Where I live it's particularly heavy on religiosity, and local churches were pushing hard to get people to vote no. Reason prevailed this time.
Partial birth abortion is still illegal. The Ohio issue allows for abortion up to 24 weeks. If you know anything about the female reproductive system, then you know that gestation of a human fetus takes approximately 40 weeks. Now, you don't have to be a mathematician to realize that 24 weeks is not a partial birth. You have now been informed. Please don't waste what you've been given.
Which represent 0.2% of abortions - in terms of abortions after 24 weeks - no abortions are done as late as 40 weeks as Amaris said, and that 0.2% is only ever done in the case of severe medical issues. Of course, you're all for supporting 0.2% of things when it comes to the Confederacy, which is how much of it WASN'T about slavery.
First off, had to check and make sure this was the boy because it was so stupid and over the top it might not have been. Second, as a partial birth abortion steal your face should not be cheering his own insipid existence. Do any of us know any other partial birth abortions that we like? There is the Trump family, Dayton Kitchens, Alex Jones, MTG, Bobert, Ted Cruz, and so many other we could all do without. They are obviously a stain on our society that we must endure because those that die would probably grow up to join this disgusting lot.
Please expound on your use of “partial birth abortion”. And, please do so AFTER you’ve read what it actually is and why one might be performed.
Even if the Republican Supreme Court allows this on the ballot, I have little confidence it would pass because in 2006 our genius electorate increased the threshold for amendment passage from a simple majority to 60%. Judging by the nonstop grievance culture in FL, it won’t be hard to find 40% of the electorate willing to tank the amendment. And when it doesn’t pass, it will be splashed all over Fox News as a victory for the “pro-life” crowd.
Ohio Republicans are already up to their bullshit: Source: https://ohiohouse.gov/news/republic...-the-public-but-doesnt-repeal-our-laws-117412 Should be interesting to see what happens next.
They prove their own dishonesty and bad faith. Born, not conceived. They don’t believe a word they’re saying.
I think there is enough support in floribama for a too viability amendment to pass with 60 percent. Even in that very red area they have sex and the men and women would want an out. I think in private abortion for those of sex age is important even to the religious. The born agains seem very aware that a lack of abortion in the duh means they would have to go really far to get one, and that is a lot of monety for the poor white trash of floribama. The real problem in florida is the elderly who no longer need abortions and want to punish the youth for having sex because they cannot have it anymore. There are a lot of nasty old people who want to punish the young for having sex, and who think a child is a great way to punish younger kids. They hate youthful people who have the freedom to not be pushed into raising a child because the elderly are hopefully the last generations to have been socially railroaded into having children. This is one of their last ways to force people to have kids due to stupidity. I do not know if you can find 60 percent with the elderly being allowed to make choices to punish the young in florida. That is especially true when you still have older snowbirds who can vote to end abortion in florida who still have the money and ability to fly any family to a state or country where abortion is legal.
Issue 1 doesn't mention a single law ... no shit, neither does the Constitution. If it repealed individual laws, they'd be passing new ones and saying "see, Issue 1 doesn't apply!"
Indeed they don't. I made for a terrible conservative back when I was a devout fundamentalist Christian, because I believed that "pro-Life" was the way to be, I wanted to protect unborn babies, but where I lost my fellow Christians was when I advocated for the health and well-being of the mother and future child. I wanted new moms to receive support from the government and from churches so they could raise their babies. This was frowned upon, as a mother who had a child out of wedlock or who had a child when she couldn't afford it was seen as irresponsible, and that the church shouldn't support reckless behavior. It has always been about control, never about life.
Yep. I admired Jesus for what he said and did. I grew up poor and Jesus said I was just as valuable, just as important, just as loved, as anyone else. Apparently, this made a lot of Christians angry.
It's a "make the bad girls pay" movement. That's one reason so many pro-lifers are begrudgingly OK with abortion if the woman got raped. It's true, a person who believes abortion is always murder may say "well, I'd rather outlaw them all, but I know we can't get that law passed, so preventing some abortions is better than preventing none." But plenty of people list "illegal except in cases of rape and incest" as their preferred policy, which has only one logical explanation: women who choose to have sex need to be punished.
