Democrats had a chance to codify Roe yet they spend every election cycle fear mongering about abortion, especially since the Dobbs decision, why do you think that is? I say it’s because they realize it’s a winning strategy and won’t hold Biden’s feet to the fire because it would distract from the Trump hat and that’s more important. So yeah, they’ll run on this and people will buy it without any thought and will probably win on this one issue. Trump probably doesn’t even give a shit about abortion and hasn’t really had any policy issues to bring up since 2015 and the Democrats will promise the moon like they always do. So the best I can hope for is that Kennedy is appealing enough to shake up the whole system because the LP is in too much disarray to be affective at any level. So we’ll see. A lot can happen between now and November and every election the stakes get higher and higher.

The Democrats have been running on fear mongering over Roe the last few election cycles ever since the Dobbs decision. That and Trump hate is the only thing they have been running on. As for the Republicans, yes it’s true Trump hasn’t run on much either. I didn’t vote for Trump so I see no reason to have to defend him or the Republicans.

I'll grant you that the Democrats could have codified Roe into law at various points in the past 40 years that it was around. But it generally was thought that there would be no need to since it was doubted that there would be a decision full-on-opposing Roe.

You know it's not true that the Democrats had a realistic chance to codify Roe since Dobbs, because as explained elsewhere, a) an organized minority can stymie almost anything through the filibuster and b) the Democrats don't have a real majority in the Senate on this issue, since two centrists are anti-Roe.
