    I disagree with the first part. Up until 2010 about a third to a quarter of the Democratic caucus were rural pro-life Dems. There was never a Dem majority much less a super majority to get Roe codified.

    Lol it's so fucking on point that of all the things posted in this thread, many about women being treated more like property than people, the thing that gets you and UA instantly throwing around the Nazi comparisons is a joke about dudes.

    Why ignore the elephant in the POTUS. Joe Biden is a pro-life democrat who worked towards overturning Roe with legislation ion a federal level outlawing Abortion. Devout Catholics have been one of the biggest cults against abortion out there on the dem's side. Joe Himself is a huge part of the power structure of catholic/christian morals making women second class citizens and allowing for men to control their bodies.

    This election the actual person who has used his power, what little of it he has, to help keep abortion legal so he can knock his mistresses up and get the babies aborted is Donald Trump.

    This is fucking ridiculous. The right wing is pretending Donald Trump is not the rich guy cheating on his wife and wants abortion open so he does not have to fuck his prenup with biol;ogical evidence of a fling with someone like a porn star. They are trying to pretend that guy is a godly moral man. While the left is trying to pretend a lifelong member of a cult who believes the earth was created 6000 years ago, women were created by god and cursed by him for getting his boy toy tossed out of heaven for eating from the tree of knowledge, that the crackers and wine he eats turn into the blood and flesh of a 2000 year old zombie savior, and has tried to make abortion illegal, stop integration of black children into white schools, tried to keep gays from the military and wanted to banish them if they came out, and was the white watcher over our first black president who would have corn popped him if he did any black shit. They are trying to pretend that guy is a liberal and free thinking scientific man.

    What the motherfuck is wrong with both sides, and where is the fucking asteroid already?

    Everyone who believes either side at this point is either a true fucking moron imbecile or a complete liar. Yes, Joe Biden has always been worse than Donald Trump. One of the reasons is because he has actually made things worse and tried to make things worse his entire career and dems think he has their backs. At least Trump fucks up and screws his own plans up. We have been fighting to evolve from religious and corporate Joe Biden corruption for decades. There is a decent argument to be made that Joe Biden is far more dangerous to the process of evolution than Trump is. At least Trump does not fall for christian bullshit. Joe Biden is a lifelong cultist in catholicism.

    I just thought it was nice to finally point out to the person who’s been screaming the loudest about fascists that he is in fact advocating for fascist behavior. It’s a real mask off moment for him.

    I don't have the inclination/energy to try to suss out the makeup of various Congresses for any level of certainty, but I am willing to concede the argument that there were at least some points since Roe that there were enough pro-choice Dems and Republicans in both houses that, with some arm-twisting, could have gotten Roe (or some sort of law fending off at least the most heinous types of encroachments on the right to choose) codified.

    The problem is that the Dems would have no power to arm twist pro-choice Rs. On the other hand the majority pro-life Rs could arm twist them in the opposite direction.

    Lindsay Graham is saying that if Trump is elected the Republicans will pass a national abortion ban. I'm sure the "states rights!!!" types in this thread will be opposed to them doing this right.

    The pro-choice Republican is a similar animal to the moderate Republican. They can get a ton of ink spilled labeling themselves pro-choice, but when push comes to shove they aren’t going to actually cast a deciding vote. Just find any excuse and side with the caucus.

    Same shit they immediately pulled out re IVF: "We're absolutely positively supportive of IVF and Republicans don't want to hamper it"
    <hour later>
    Bill is introduced to protect IVF and it's blocked by a Republican*
    <moments later>
    Well, see, we think it's a states rights issue"

    *Cindy Hyde-Smith, who's own nephew and his wife used IVF to start a family, said that IVF would lead to human-animal chimeras. I know Tuberville is the consensus choice for Stupidest Senator but damn if she doesn't want in that discussion.

    It does not matter. They already said it was just fine for the legislature to step in and stop this sort of thing if people vote for it. The duh should not have to legalize pot for everyone because we did that years ago and desantis and his right wing legislature stepped right in and gave the gift to doctors by making it prescription only.

    Basically, it has a great chance to get passed, but just like witgh pot the desantis legislature and his SG who thinks coviod vaccines are harmful will step in and say abortion is medically harmful and they cannot let doctors and people to decide for themselves, we need the legislature full of repugs determine what is safe for you and ujust ban it again becauser it is not safe for the baby which is a human life. If you define a fetus as a human life therefor abortion wouild be harmful to that life and the courts appointed by the repugs are going top side with that because you cannot legislate murder into legality.

    This is exactly what will happen. You cannot have freedom while you have fascist anti-american republicans running your state and country, and as jusges.

    I'm sure the leg is already plotting their "Yeah...but actually no" rebuttal, but they can't stop highly motivated pro-choice voters from maxing turnout in November.

    A similar situation is developing in Arizona and Montana. Very possibly control of the senate (in a year in which the seats available was considered to be impossible for Dems) could turn on this one issue.

    I will admit the people will show up. People are overwhelmingly angry at the 6 week thing and want to step in. They have to understand you need to remove the republicans in the house because the first step is to just have them lock step a legislating amendment ban because desantis will tell them to. The other problem becomes the state courts who have been nominated by anti-abortion repugs forever. These are the same people who support the SG. As far as I am aware there is not much changing any of that this election.

    I am hoping that people smarten up around here after we all got ripped off and funded duhsantis as he roamed about the country humiliating himself in a presidential run and has really overstepped in his performative unconstitutional bannings which have only wasted time and money. It is obvious we need to remove every repug in the legislature since they allowed him to run for president without resignuing agains the will of everyone including the republican voters.

    I would be great if a blue wave took the legislature here and made it so he cannot get everything he wanted by them. I just do not see it. We arer also undermined by a huge number of evangelical hispanic voters. They are very religious fascist. They do not like the GLBT people, they love their hesus, and abortion is against hesus. These people are really fresh off the boat and that religious fundamentalism of south america and the islands like cuba is part of their culture and heritage that they feel a need to protect. They are not going to be jumping up to eliminate abortion. Over the years they will change, and their children will lose some of that religious cultism for better thinking. However, this is why Trump, Desantis, and Rubio have not been ousted from the floriduh majority.

    I hope I am wrong. I would love to be.

    For anyone who isn't able to read the story:

    - He almost got fired as U.S. attorney for New Mexico territory for marrying a 12-year-old, but resigned instead.
    - That girl was his second wife. His third was 15. (He was around 50 at the time.)
    - He then left her and moved to Hawaii, where he impregnated a 14-year-old and married her.

    So, perfectly on-brand for today's Republican Party.

    Letr us also remember a couple of things. This wonderful human being had multiple terenage wives who he impregnated who had no ability to get an abortion. They also would have had trouble caring for their kids without a male to make money as they were often not allowed to be employed, own land, or have bank accounts. They also had no ability to force a father to pay for their children. Divorce would have been much harder on the woman or girl as she would have had little ability to move across the country to avoid her reputation as being divorced.

    But, this is the sort of thing modern republicans seem to love and wish to return to. It is highly likely the divorce was his idea as the women would have been left destitute and disgraced if they divorced him, while he could easily move on and be elected to government and get another teenage girl pregnant and leave her and the kids behind.

    This is the sort of lifestyle people like Trump and the MAGA crowd dreams of. It is such a bummer that today a woman can get your money, force you to pay for your kids, and not be punished for the sex you wanted as a republican male.

    I hope Arizona women remember this when they vote for their legislature next time. What really should be an easy victory on abortion and women's rights as they are half the population turns into a loss because women vote against their own rights and for sexism, while there are less men who vote for women's rights. Really you should only need a couple of men to make as majority, but it is really women who vote for these trhings along with men now that women have a vote.

    Thank you very much for that tidbit. I'm hoping Florida voters will turn out bigly to approve the amendment, but it's easy to forget that despite everything perpetrated by DeSantis and Scott, et. al. that Florida has a lot of Democratic and independent voters. I wish the threshold was lower, but I am on the record as saying that I don't think 60% is really unreasonable as a way of establishing that the Legislature and Governor are wildly out of touch with the voters...so... :clyde:
