That is one smart dude! Truly ahead of his time. Be friendly, but not too close. "Stay in our lane" as it were.
Yeah, and Washington buried his head in the sand until his successors caused the Napoleonic crisis to land on our shores.
Yanks are now flying the troops back from Iraq (in the air now) and surprise surprise the russians just started hitting the big airfields.
It occured to me that troop transports filled with troops might be considerd a legit target by the Russkis, although I assume they'd think twice or even three times before firing on US transports. Even so, I don't think I'd be sending them into that airspace without some serious fighter escort, and letting it be known that any bogeys closing to missile engagement range would be dropped.
I would guess the minister in charge of reintegrating South Ossetia and Abkazia (sp?) back into Georgia.
So basically, no Russian resupply by sea? Have they no other naval bases closer than Kaliningrad (sp?)?
Not that they was any before afaik, but I noticed Googlemaps currently doesn't have any terrain, road, or city information for the country of Georgia.
Most people don't. Each team has an Area of High Expertise that defines the type of mission they specialize in. Team 4 out of Little Creek deployed with us as Beachmasters a lot. Cool guys.
If the UN weren't made up of petty thugs and dictators from around the world I might be agreeable to your statement. The UN ultimately is a rather useless body. Outside of its humanitarian efforts it is a genuine failure.
What are you not agreeable to? The UN is made up of the worlds governments, the petty dictators and democrats alike.
Beachmasters? IIRC, while each team operates in a assigned area, certain teams were delegated to help in Iraq/Afghanistan as well. I don't know for sure, but I recall reading somewhere that almost all the teams had people in Iraq/Afghanistan at one point.
Here is a site with maps of Georgia. Republic of Georgia Maps I found the map of ethnoliguistic groups to be interesting. Here is an article on the history of the region. South Ossetia South Ossetia is seperated from North Ossetia by mountains. Geographically, South Ossetia is more a part of Georgia than Russia. The area has been settled by Ossetians, who are not ethnic Russians, but who have allied themselves with Russia in conflicts between various ethnic groups in this region.
While I wish no harm on the populace of Zug Didi, the thought of some news babe incorrectly pronouncing "Zug Didi" excites me!
Its crap. Georgia decided to pull a fast one and come down on the people who've been living autonomously for 20 years in South Ossetia. They decided to shell civilian targets and occupy the capital, but they got their dick slammed in the door by Russia, who's now blowing up everything in sight. Georgia will lose Azkhabia and South Ossetia, but so far Russian troops are only in those two provinces, and I doubt they're planning on rolling on Tblisi. There's no way in hell America is going to back Georgia against Russia on this, especially since its Georgia's own damn stupid fault. For god's sake, Georgian troops are executing civilians.
I must admit that I have no clear idea at all WTF is happening in this region. I haven't had the news on in two days and frankly I haven't been interested enough to look anything up about it on the internet. Strange, considering I'm usually interested in this sort of thing. Maybe it's just war fatigue from the events of the past decade or so. But at the first sign of any kind of air to air engagement I will be tuned in like a fucking hawk.
Weird. Whenever there's a picture of . . . [?=Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili][/?] [?=I keep seeing:][/?]
This entire thing is a massive mess and shows how many of these things are based only on which countries are allied with which and have little to do with what is the "right" thing to do. South Ossetia has held referendums with massive landslide wins for the independence crew, why the hell are we supporting Georgia in trying to regain a region they have mistreated in the past and that no longer wants to be part of it? Russia is doing the right thing in pushing Georgia out of South Ossetia, but I agree they are probably doing it for the wrong reasons.
That's kind of the point. It has been established pretty well in the past couple of decades that regions should have the right to break away if they consider it neccesary, however Russias recent history would suggest that their motives for supporting such a move by South Ossetia are less than noble.
There's also the issue of the Russians likely having actually created the secessionist movement in the first place.
If the USA created a secular-state movement in Iran which eventually ended in a referendum with overwhelming support for Iran becoming a secular state would that then not count in your eyes because of how it was started? Also... You originally said, and I quote:
Yes, and the police aren't the owners of the weapons described. The Russians, however, are the owners of the troops in question.
What are you getting at? Ideologies are just words. Welcome to international politics, now push that old lady down those stairs.
Apparently, Georgia Misunderestimated Us So, to sum up, the United States is being blamed for: *Starting this war. *Not stopping this war. *Not being involved enough in this war. *Provoking Russian Aggression *Being too permissive to Russian Aggression. They actually, genuinely believed we would wage a thermonuclear war with Russia to help them integrate their country. Guess again! We didn't nuke Cuba, we're not gonna nuke Moscow.
I don't know what we can do in the short run, not much as is evidenced. Condemnation means jack and shit when you're toting all of your wordly possesions on a litter strung across the back of an animal though.
