Not really. The state assembly is overwhelmingly Republican. If it had gotten to the floor it would have gone down in flames. Were it to somehow pass, the governor would veto it before it even hit his desk. Barring a large-scale shift in public opinion, that thing will be there for at least another 10 years. Probably closer to 20 as they’ll almost certainly tie it to a public referendum for a constitutional amendment and even if the public agrees that the bust has to go, it’ll take about 10 years before the state can act upon it. (They did the same thing when it came to legalizing the lottery here. Because it was tied to amending the state constitution, they couldn’t start work on getting a state lottery until after the public approved the amendment. For some reason though, it didn’t work that way when they banned gay marriage. )

I hope the removals are followed by a campaign to replace the slavers' statues with monuments to some truly great Americans ...

I would suggest a statue for the 9th Cavalry who were known as the buffalo soldiers. Speaking of, why not a statue for Bob Marley? Also a statue for the 54th Mass. regiment who fought as the first black regiment in the civil war. The movie Glory was based on them. Bass Reeves would be another one.
