So it's okay to call someone a pedophile now?

Not that others haven’t already pointed out that tags were a stupid idea to begin with, but it seems some members have managed to pervert them even faster than expected:

Sokar’s first homemade guitar: “Liet preys on children.”
The new Wordforge sucks: “Liet preys on children.”
Mewa! Make your own bling at home!: “Liet <3’s little boys”
Banned teenage pregnancy ad: “Liet <3’s little boys”

But we've been told this is what the board needs to bring in more members. So it’s all good, right?

And, yes, I'd have started this no matter who the target was.

Eh, doesn't particularly bother me. Yeah, it's an "I told you so" moment, but so what? It's less disruptive than rep jihad, blowing up the userCP, thread derailment, etc. Given the other things that are allowed here, this seems pretty tame. Of course a crackdown on all efforts to disrupt the board might be in order, but picking and choosing a relatively minor effort seems silly.

Nevertheless, it used to be against the rules.

And among other things, I'm wondering what Lanzman's employers would think about it.

    Okay, so...

    1. How did you do that?
    2. What's the point?

    Thanks!

    1) Click "Edit tags" in the top right corner of the tags box

    2) They're searchable and, if used maturely, make it easier to find threads.

Tags are key words that show up in search engines, attracting more people's attention to the site so that, hypothetically, they'll become new members.

Given the intellectual level of some in the RR, obviously, the feature was immediately turned into a shitfest.

Some of it's already been discussed here:

    http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=70715

My question would be why staff can't embed hidden tags that would attract search engines just as effectively without leaving them open to shenanigans.

Just out of curiosity because I am new here, is this type of low brow name calling and insult trading back and forth between the two main established camps all that happens here at Wordforge?

It seems that 85-90% of all threads here devolve into mud-slinging and name calling with any real dialogue being snuffed out pretty quickly? Is that just because you guys have been posting on this website for years and there is no new material to discuss and are basically sick of each other or simply because trolling each other is entertaining and helps pass the time?

IMHO it seems to me that the partisan hackery on both sides would get extremely tiresome, boring and would also seem to be a serious waste of time and energy to keep rehashing the same old insults/arguments for years on end?

Or was Wordforge created for just that originally?

Not trying to start any flame fests just truly curious.

    No, you're right.

    1) All threads that start out legitimate end up in back and forth insult trading.
    2) All real dialogue is snuffed out by mudslinging.
    3) It happens b/c we've all been here far too long saying the same shit over and over again.
    4) There is new material, but when you break it down it's happened before.
    5) Trolling each other is more entertaining.
    6) The partisan hackery has gotten extremely tiresome and boring.
    7) WF is a waste of time and energy.
    8) WF wasn't created for this purpose, but let's be serious here - it actually was.

    ^I'd agree with 1) and 2).

The rest has to do with the individual reasons people join WF.

This thread makes me sad, I can't believe that polarslam's struggle for the right to call your fellow wordforger a child rapist has been forgotten.

Yup. It's all okay. You can call someone a pedophile, or tell them to kill themselves, or make fun of their dead dog or dead mother, or just call them a nigger or similar whenever you like.

Nothing is too low for the Red Room, so long as you don't break the highly subjective personal information rule. Even then, you'll most likely get a few chances.

I've noticed a trend lately. People say "This is the Red Room!" as if there's some sort of required behavior. "I can't help posting Pedobear or photos of shit...the Red Room made me do it!" :jayzus:

I'm considering turning the tags off altogether, since they're being used mostly to trade flames.

It's not required, but decency isn't exactly rewarded. Especially if you're on the unpopular side of an argument.

Indeed. polarslam is the Rosa Parks of Wordforge.

If Rosa Parks had been a Canadian fratboy instead of an old black woman.

And she'd wanted to call the bus driver a kiddie fiddler instead of sitting in the front of the bus.

And why is this a complaint? People have been calling each other pedo for years.

The argument should be made from the angle that thread tags don't really serve a purpose, not because people are trolling with it.

I should think Polarslam would not like being compared to Ms. Rosa Parks as it is a well known fact that Polarslam dislikes black people.

It's my take that a bunch of libertarian malcontents left TBBS en masse and recreated "the tragedy of the commons" using mime. But I'm a relative noob so don't take my word for it.

I don't really remember a time when there wasn't partisan bickering at WF.

Honestly, I don't get involved in it. I do find it entertaining sometimes.

There is other stuff to talk about here but the back-and-forth bullshit sometimes seems to drown out the other stuff.

We have some good discussions here too. We aren't all squabbling children.

Partisan bickering is fine. It's what makes this place interesting.

Grade-school name-calling has taken to drowning out even the partisan bickering.

How many times can you post "die in a fire" before you start to bore yourself?

The pedo rule was removed long ago by Elwood. Stupidest thing he had ever done IMHO.

    It should be brought back.
