Second Amendment, First Amendment... Who needs those pesky rights, right?

In case you didn't read the thread, the NRA doesn't seem too concerned about the First Amendment.

Given your behavior in the RR, you guys routinely trash the First in defense of the Second.

    What Actormike said.

And while mass shootings do take place more often here than in other first-world nations, and yes that does need to be addressed as to why (waves to Chup), they are rare. And we shouldn't treat the majority of Americans as criminals because of one or two people.

    But that said:
Far be it from me to think that either Actormike or Garamet are above gamesmanship, but the hypocrisy from some on this issue has been...enlightening, to say the least. Some of the same people who are against modifications to the 2nd Amendment would have no problems if the Constitution was amended to disallow automatic citizenship at birth if one's parents came here illegally.

And yeah, to implement this on a wide scale, it IS gonna cost money, either from the national level or a local bond. Anyone who thinks otherwise has their head in their ass. Having the Feds take over the idea will lead so something that may make the TSA look as efficient as a Henry Ford Assembly Line in comparison. Is it worth it for mere security theatre?

Let's see. The NRA brain trust thinks our best response is to station armed cops in schools. That way, the next time some nutbar with an AR=15 shows up to commit mayhem at a school, let's not do a thing to stop him from getting the gun in the first place...let's just have cops armed to the teeth waiting for him so that the kids can not only get taken out by the nut, they can now get killed by being caught in the crossfire of a firefight.

    Geniuses...

My taxes already pay for sub-standard teachers. Let's fire them, and use the money to hire an armed guard. Almost guarantee that an armed guard makes less than a teacher.

Give the under-performing teachers an option: we can hire you as a security guard. Start packing a gun, or start packing period, because you're fucking gone. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out! :santa_ok:

Hire disgruntled former teachers as armed guards? What could possibly go wrong?

This is because actormike and garamet are perfectly willing to spend tax dollars on fantasy solutions that fit their agenda but not real solutions that don't fit their reality script.

in his world, being anti killing spree is the same thing as being anti second amendment, because he can't conceive of any response that isn't from the extremes of guns in every hand or no guns at all.

Putting a full-time cop in every school in the country is not a real solution. Unless you want to pay for it. Which I'm guessing you don't.

It's funny, I've seen a lot of gun owners who love this idea, yet not a single one who's stepped up to fork over the tax increase that it would take to pay for it.

    Wonder what that's about?

Actually, we already pay for it in this county. Works for a myriad of our district's problems.

The real problem with this idea is this:

    It would make no difference!!!

As Charles Krauthammer put it, "there are an infinite number of soft targets in this country".

What would you do about kids at recess? Unless you keep them inside all the time they are still just as vulnerable.

What about kids on school buses? How hard is it for an armed person to suddenly jump on a school bus at a school bus stop?

I drove school buses for six years and I'll tell you, very easily.

My taxes would go to the four Oakland, NJ schools. Not every one in the nation.

But personally, I'd favor qualified, trained volunteers over hired guards.

Make up your minds, are they armed camps or armed enclaves?

And how many security guards does it take to make either one?

Disband the TSA first. Costs won't go up, they'll just be transferred to something that might have a marginally better chance of actually keeping people safe. At the very least, it's nothing worse than relocating a nuisance.

You're right, and it's stupid to stop with the schools. Kids are too often elsewhere. The only solution is an armed government employee assigned to shadow each child.

Why is that an odd question?

Let's say there's school yard brawl, or the Plastics are bullying some little fat girl. Do the cops step in and stop it? Who's guarding the rest of the hens? Well, then you'll need another cop. Cha-ching!

You see how insane this idea really is?

So use the same hiring process and budget that's lead to a useless, ineffective and incompetent government security agency?

Same here. Our school district already has a police officer at every high school and middle school. AFAIK, most other school districts here are the same.

Seriously. Approximately 1,500 kids are killed annually in their own homes. What does the NRA intend to do about that?

Come on Forbin, you're smarter than that. You said it yourself, there are four schools in your small community. That's a minimum of four guards paid for out of your pocket.
