Isn't your side fond of pointing out how LEOs have so much less training than you Big Damn Heroes do?

Perhaps you can link to examples of police officers in schools taking down assailants without collateral damage.

    Just one will do. :bailey:

Have there been examples of police officers in schools taking down assailants at all?

In 1970, 1% of schools had police officers stationed at them, and that number has increased to 40% since then.

Your side, your side, your side. There is no side when it comes to moral authority and killing kids, otherwise some of y'all wouldn't voted for someone who sends his robot assassins to kill little brown kids.

I'm out. Spending the week with friends and family, all of ya'll can go fuck yourselves.

    Not sure.

The study I read said it doesn't really lower school crime.

It's reassuring to me to know that if they DID implement an effective mental screening program for screening gunowners, Gul, Garamet, and Actormike would NEVER have to worry about actually about actually being in posession of a gun themselves.

Fortunately, nobody will, because this idea is totally insane.

But I haven't seen a single gun owner say "yes, this is a wonderful idea, and I'm okay with my taxes increasing by $________ to pay for it." Not one.

Programs like Eddie Eagle promote safety and education, instructing children to not touch guns they may find lying around ("Stop! Don't touch! Tell an adult!"), and educating parents on how to secure guns and teach their children how dangerous they can be.

Tell you what, then, why don't you wait to criticize the so-called liberal response until he's said something brilliant. As things stand, he's said something idiotic, and ripe for ridicule. Don't get worked up over something that didn't happen and I won't have to call, you on it.

Why's that? Because we think a terrible idea is a terrible idea? And that those who advocate for this terrible idea should say they're okay with paying for it? Is that crazy?

Yes, I'm okay with it. Let's see if my town comes up with a figure and decides to put it to a vote.

I'm still gonna push my trained & qualified volunteer idea over hired guards, though.

I find it fascinating that so many people that have never touched a firearm before in their life want to ban guns.

I had a conversation today with someone that figured it would be easy to just ban bullets. He didn't even realize how easy it was to reload your own rounds.

    Congress. Try to pay attention.

If Azure's right and 40% of school districts have an armed officer on the premises, surely you can find one instance. Because there must be some reason y'all are so convinced it would work.

Whereas you might be in trouble, Vizzini. Still waiting for an example of what you consider "fantasy," given some of the craziness your cohort is spewing.

In 2005, a San Antonio ISD police officer shot a guy when he discovered him and another suspect trying to break into cars at an elementary school campus. He tried to arrest them, but they got in their car and tried to run down the officer (the car actually hit him, IIRC). He fired three shots, killing the driver.

None of the local news websites' archives go back that far, so I can't provide a link, but I was there. You can believe me or not.

    I believe you.

In a situation like this - i.e., out in the open - the outcome is far more likely to be positive than it would be in a classroom, lunch room, crowded corridor, etc. Not every school, particularly in urban areas, has a campus.

Ditto here. So I'm missing the big deal. It's already funded, the officers are well trained in dealing with kids and in not presenting themselves as anything intimidating. Their uniforms are a polo, slacks, a badge and a gun. Again, the big deal is?

As for the cost is saw this the other day: 99,000 schools. $50,000 annual salary per officer on average. Total annual cost about $4 Billion in ANNUALY spread across the nation. At current spending that is a pittance. So let the local communities vote on this. The big deal is?

    A. You're undershooting on cost. You have to factor in benefits and vacation time, as well as training, equipment, guns and ammo. Not to mention the more you pay in salary, the higher quality officer you're going to get.

    B. One cop per school won't cut it. What if he's sick? Gets hurt? Is on the other side of the building. My middle school had three floors. What if he's on floor 3 breaking up a fight and a Bad Guy comes bursting in the front door? Two cops would be needed, minimum.

    C. LaPierre didn't ask local communities to vote on it. He appealed to Congress. That means Federal taxes. And as y'all are fond of reminding us, we're broke.

How? There are schools and districts that don't have them. He was right that school architecture sucks when it comes to security. You can make a secure facility that does not resemble his arms fortress or prison.

I got tired of waiting, and did my own digging. I don't know whether the report you read is the same one I found, but the 40% figure refers to "at least one hour" of police presence per week. That is substantially different from what the NRA is suggesting.

So while we figure out ways to stop people from wanting to kill, it's bad to want them not to have guns?
