Oh, the left and the right are blaming video games this time.

Come on, authoritarian censorists, just go ahead, cross the aisle, and suck each other off already.

So before we needed guns to keep the government from imposing some sort of police state, and now in response to gun violence, the NRA wants... to impose some sort of police state in schools? Oh, and censorship.

What value do guns have when it comes to defending your rights if you're willing to give up those other rights just to hold on to your guns?

Figured their statement of "regret" the other day was just crocodile tears.

Aside from calling for suspending the Second Amendment, are we to believe that they could have said that actormike or garamet would've supported?

School safety is a local issue, and should be handled locally. Blanket decrees and proclamations that result in blanket mandates from either side are the biggest problem this country has. We are a country of 300,000,000 plus, with near 100,000 separate school districts. No press conference, blue ribbon commission or speech is going to solve one damned thing. Want safe kids? Do all you can to make sure they're safe.

And yet, when the conversation is around education, Teh Public Schools are talked about here as if they were part of one monolithic system. Curious.

Yes, I agree, we should abolish the Department of Education too. Glad you've seen the light. :techman:

How about we stop blaming society for a handful of fucked-up criminals?

The fault is theirs and the blame belongs on them.

I am skeptical that this kind of thing can be stopped completely. Messed up folks will always find a way, if that is what they really want.

Well, even if their 'solution' is completely wrong, at least they came up with something.

The government is going to spend $200 million on a study and come up with nothing.

A really drunk high school dropout could have come up with a better plan using swizzle sticks and a cocktail napkin.

    Agreed.

If that's how you interpret what I just said, you may need more screening.

And because it can't be stopped completely, let's do nothing, but not before we classify everyone who acts out violently as a criminal. :bergman:

Blaming video games is stupid. Putting an armed guard or LEO in a school is not stupid considering you can't prevent a crazy from shooting up a school at present.

They're going to come up with what I already did.

    Legalize drugs and hookers.

Allow shrinks to prescribe drugs and hookers.

Ban religion to make the shrink's job easier.

    Then.....they'll shred the study.

Yeah, what's that Franklin quote about safety vs. freedom? Apparently :hail: guns are the exception to that, along with every other rational thought.

Did we learn nothing from September 11th/The Patriot Act?

Forming policy in reaction to tragedy is almost always a very bad idea.

A drunk high-school dropout, sure, but apparently not a libertarian kook with an MBA from the University of Chicago. Armed guards at every school may be dumb, but it beats the hell out of teaching six-year-olds to rush the shooter.

Drunken high school drop-outs are far better educated and more sober than anyone with a business, economics, or law degree from U. of Chicago.

I don't support suspending the Second Amendment. Not sure where you might have gotten that from.

I completely agree. And I'm sure we agree that turning our schools into armed enclaves protected by poorly-paid, ill-trained government agents isn't anything resembling an answer.
