Not to validate the tap-dance routine that I'm sure Garamet's playing (I've mostly skimmed this thread),but one example of this that springs to mind was after the Dark Knight shooting in Colorado, and a couple posters suggesting the right thing to do was for anyone with a weapon to start firing off, regardless of A) low lighting, B) tear gas had been released and C) most importantly, a considerable number of innocent bystanders running around in panic that would get caught in the crossfire. That said, the number of gun right supporters are so reckless as to fire off in such a condition, and pretty much every time we have a standdown on weapons safety, we're taught not to fire unless we can get a clear shot on the guy without putting other lives in danger. I'm assuming most gun classes are taught the same way.
No one's asked me my opinion. Zombie keeps telling me my opinion, but you do know that's not the same thing, right?
No, the primary purpose of automobiles is to roar down the highway at high rates of speed and run over children and hobos.
You're right. A surprising number of people seem to be handing Zombie's ass to him, but so far he's coping.
Anna is distorting what was said. This man at the dark Knight shooting walked down the aisles and shot people at very close range. It was thus most likely possible to get a very clear, very close shot off at the man. No one is advocating shooting across a crowded room with a handgun.
But that makes such a nice strawman, for the "Armed civilians only make life more dangerous for everyone" crowd. You aren't very nice, taking that away from them, when it's about all they have.
