Sure make guns illegal that way we can easily keep them out of the public's hands just like we did with drugs.

    ......er, wait a minute.....

Is that in private ownership or in total?

But this, surely, is the resposibility of state agencies, not the private citizen?

Is the demand lowered without regulation?

Is the entitlement be an equal with an criminal one worth advocating? Also, I have not suggested banning guns, rather discussing some sort of regulation. A citizen without a criminal reciord should be able to acquire a hand gun quite easily, even with limited regulation, no?

    At least it'snot viagra!

Yes. 200 MILLION firearms in the hands of private citizens. This country is awash in guns. You can't turn back the clock.

I'm not saying that the guns are needed for border defense, but that our huge and mostly porous borders mean that it is very easy to smuggle stuff into the US (think drugs today and liquor during prohibition).

Along with my first point, this is to demonstrate that guns are already here and guns will continue to come into this country one way or another. Criminals WILL have ready access to firearms no how much you restrict law abiding citizens from accessing them.

No, when it comes to criminals you can't lower the demand by trying to constrict supply (what regulations do). Again, think of drugs. How successful has the War on Drugs been?

For me, hell yeah. I like my life! I want to be able to protect myself and mine.

Convicted felons already can't own hand guns.

Wonder if this is a similar case to Charles Whitman - they'll crack his skull open and find a huge brain tumor.

As a general priniciple, US law is not supposed to be preventative, but responsive to actions committed. We abhor prior restraint, and view it as the attitude of sheep and cowards.

I think Anc has it right.

No gun regulations at this point can help the situation. There are already too many guns out there and anyone who wants them badly enough can get them.

    It's like Pandora's Box.

And since we can't rely on the police to be timely in every situation, I wouldn't mind having a gun for personal home defense.

I don't give a damn about hunting for sport, don't care about having a fancy gun collection and I'm not convinced that owning a gun can protect someone from government tyranny in this day and age.

But at the very least, I believe we do have a right to defend ourselves and our homes.

He drove, it was midnight so it was dark. He parked by the emergency exit. Who the fuck is supposed notice a guy at night in the dark? I don't if it's the same where you live, but here it's dark at night. And people don't hang out in the parking lots of movie theaters. I know this is difficult for you to comprehend, but they were inside watching a movie. No one saw him until he entered the emergency exit and started firing. Are you really that stupid, or do you work at it?

Looking at that chart shows we're pretty safe now. We're almost back to the same level as the 1950's.

Yes, pretty safe compared to Honduras, El Salvador, Russia...

Has the murder rate gone down because there are fewer murders, or because we have a higher population?

I've heard that for sheer number of victims with injuries, this is the biggest mass shooting in American history. :(

71 shot in Aurora, 56 shot at Virgina Tech. More deaths at Virgina Tech, though.

Anc, you may post like you've lived for over 20, but mikey just asked one of the more moronic "questions" posted on WF in past several months.

E.g., mike, what if the population growth you asked about was comprised of crack addicts and ghetto dwellers? Are you for friggin real?
