I will admit I didn't know the Luby's shooting spurred new gun laws in Texas. My knowledge of Texas gun laws is not especially high.

But the "if only an armed citizen had been there!!!" wailing is ridiculous. The vast majority of people, carry holders or not, simply don't have the training or instinct to react to such a situation in a way that doesn't abet the carnage.

You also have to look at the crowd at a midnight showing of a Batman movie. Kids, mostly. Fanboys. It's not "hippies" (STFU, apostle) and it's not gun nuts who never leave the house without their gat and 1000 rounds.

Anyone saying that they would have reacted with some mad Chuck Norris shenanigans is retarded. Like actormike says, this crowd was the fanboys, I guarantee that when the shit went down, 90% of them thought it was a case of cosplay theatrics.

Plus, the guy threw out a gas canister and shot blindly into the crowd. Who in the hell can spot the shooter and end him in the middle of that chaos? THAT would be some superhuman shit right there.

Perhaps the state should mandate weapon safety be taught throughout the public school system.

I wonder what Batman would have done in this situation.

That's it. It's her fault - the Final Destination thing. She was fated to die in a shooting, so a shooting had to catch up with her. Everybody else just got in the way.

My observation is that your knowledge in this area is typically driven by emotion and lack of experience with guns in general.

To the contrary, it isn't. We have a very active thread here about an elderly shooter who stopped two thugs committing an armed robbery.

Please explain what you're basing this off of. There was a permit holder at the Gabby Giffords shooting who did not shoot because he made the call that him doing so would not be productive. In fact, Mr. Zamudio was one of the people who wrestled the shooter down in that shooting. He was just an average guy with a little bit of training who made an assessment and did the right thing.

Guess what? Police are not magical beings. They're guys with training - and, in the case of guns, often too little training. I'm confident that I could outshoot at least 95% of law enforcement in the nation - and 99% of guys on a beat who aren't SWAT/Tac Team.

There were probably no guns in the theater unless they were carried by a hood or by the shooter - the theater was a no carry zone. I have several friends in several states who saw the movie at the midnight premier. They have permits to carry. They have indicated to me that they were not carrying.

I don't think I would have reacted with Chuck Norris theatrics. I am pretty sure I would have drawn my weapon, and that when the guy got close I would have fired as best I could. I probably would have been pissing my pants while I was doing it, probably would have been very shaky, but I know if I had a close range shot I would have taken it.

Breivik had a political motive. This doesn't look like that.
