That ain't Star Trek. Star Trek has always had a diverse cast, and anything which doesn't have a diverse cast cannot, by definition, be Star Trek. It'd be like making a Ghostbusters movie without ghosts or a Star Wars movie without having the Force. Or the New Testament without Jesus.
One of the strongest themes in Star Trek has been diversity, that humans had put racism, sexism, bigotry, greed, etc. behind themselves for the betterment of humankind. Your ideas of Star Trek are opposite of that, and are more in line with what has been outdated even in today's society.
Perhaps not, but someone who watches Star Trek and doesn't grasp that the diversity element has been a core feature throughout, and that it has been a key element of why the franchise has been unique and appealing to so many, is a very obtuse person indeed. Incidentally Dayton, why do you watch Star Trek?
Considering what he's saying in this thread, and multiple other times as to what he wants in his Star Trek..... men being manly men.
No, but without that diverse cast, what we would have, wouldn't be Star Trek. It, at the most basic level, is about pushing boundaries. Not only in terms of exploring the galaxy, but of society as well. You, yourself, have described Duet as "among the greatest single episodes of Trek ever." One of the main characters in that episode is Kira, a woman who was an expert guerrilla fighter, and part of the reason why that episode works is because she is a woman. Let's shift this to things that happened in the real world. That's a French Resistance fighter from WWII. She faced rape, torture, and death, by choosing to take up arms to defend her country against the Nazis. She could have easily kept her head down, and lived a relatively quiet life, during the war. She didn't. She chose, unlike her government, to fight, and to put herself at risk in ways most males would never choose to do. (We already know you won't join the military, how are you when it comes being raped? You willing to risk that? I'm guessing not.) Who the fuck am I to tell her she can't do that? She's got a machine gun, I ain't gonna argue with her. A country in such a situation needs everyone willing to pick up a gun it can get. And were I fighting along side her, I can tell you that I wouldn't abandon her to the enemy. I would stay and fight for as long as she wanted, and if need be, she'd get my next to last bullet, while I took the last one. I don't know that I'd do the same for a man, but I'd stay with a woman to protect her (while she protected me).
@Dayton3: These things you keep reporting, they aren't warnable violations. Grow a thicker skin if you want to post around here.
You know, I have little doubt that if Dayton hadn't been born into the highly Christian environment he was he'd be poo stabbing as we speak.
You see, here's the issue. Star Trek portrays humans for the majority as having a morality where the whole advancement of humanity is greater than the individual. Dayton sees himself as greater than humanity, despite evidence that he is nowhere near as important or superior as he believes himself to be. So anything that is contrary to that is completely alien and incomprehensible to him.
Oh good heavens. So now "modern" is determined by events in Daytons Kitchens' life? Wow, your self importance is astonishing.
Typical el chup lie. If he doesn't have anything, he makes it up. I used a figure of speech. I never told you to die.
shooter thought otherwise to a pair of Chads posts. Why aren't you two on the same page. And are you threatening to ban me? I would bet if I called you, El Chup, ed629 and various others "retarded bastards" then that would become a warnable violation?
You fool, do you even understand the point of mentioning Sulu? And do you really not understand that nationalities are a fairly obsolete concept by the 23rd century?
If it was in response to us saying something that was worth of the retort, I doubt it. Dayton, you come into threads, offer repugnant views worthy of someone still stuck in the 1950s and then complain that people react negatively to them. The mods have to take that into account as well as for all they know you deliberately say these things to troll.
Ah, I see. The TrekBBS standard of moderation. "We're not going to bother warning and banning people we like in order to protect a member we despise". I wasn't aware that enforcing the rules was part of a popularity contest.
Since one of the posts you reported was made by shooter, I'm pretty sure he's on the same page with me.
Why don't you and the other moderators admit that you are applying the TrekBBS method of moderation (defined above).
I made a list! A list made by a fool. And no, it is not up to you to be offended by that as the offended cannot decide what is offensive.
