Profit and Lace and Move Along Home were awful. Quite a bit of season 1 wasn't very good. But after that and with that one exception, I can't remember any really bad episodes. Even the holodeck episodes were good. Bashir as Bond? Nic Fontane? Take Me Out to the Holosuite?

DS9 is the best the franchise has to offer, IMO.

Personally I do think DS9 is the best of the new Trek series (still not better than the original which had two outstanding seasons out of three) but I do think it is overrated

Rigil Kent used to post in the Enterprise forum, no? That name sounds familiar, somehow.

Yeah, the Rigil I remember was also a T'Pol/Tucker fan who left TBBS because of a certain troll that shat up the place. I'm almost certain this is the same person.

Yeah, it is. He wrote quite a bit for Foundations and contributed quite a bit in terms of coming up with stories and characters.

Instead of killing off Tasha Yar, maybe they simply just should've had her be transferred to another assignment instead?

Then we wouldn't have gotten the excellent "Yesterday's Enterprise"!

Or maybe we would've, but it would've been just tad different.

Unfortunately, "YE" led to giving us the stupidly irritatingly useless character of Sela

Regarding Sela, why couldn't Denise Crosby had simply just played a regular normal black haired Romulan?!?!

Instead of the asininely contrived Sela, who was really just "tasha" again & back, but as an unofficial "evil twin".

They could've, and SHOULD'VE, come up with a better story involving the real Tasha TASHA, from "YE" 's alternate reality instead of all that Sela horse feces!

Plus, recently I've been thinking that Tasha Yar was a character who actually would've been a natural perfect fit for Deep Space 9 :techman:

Speaking of DS9, in their MU episodes they could've had Tasha's MU counterpart be in one or more of them(?). That, at least, would've/could've been a clever way of "resurrecting" her 'character', without literally doing so!

And in "Parallels" Tasha could've been still alive, & well, on at least one of the alternate Enterprises Worf slid to in that great episode.

In that last sentence's context, no doubt Beverly made major & better career advances at Starfleet Medical in other realities, leaving Dr. Pulaski still the 1701-D's CMO in some universes, & perhaps in others, the Vulcanian Dr. Selar!

We did have a Dr. Ogawa in one of those parallel timelines.

Denise Crosby jumped shipbecause she thought she had a shot at a movie career. But I don't know why they just killed her off either. Gates McFadden was gone for season two and they wisely decided to send Crusher "on assignment."

IIRC, the entire "Sela" idea was wholly Denise Crosby's.

Yeah, it was stupid beyond belief.

It was FULL RETARD, through & through!

    Convoluted contrived tripe.

There was no reason Denise Crosby couldn't have just played a regular normal black haired bowl haircut wearing Romulan!

The whole Tasha's daughter thing was just mind numbingly stupid.

And then they polluted that 2 part Spock episode with her annoyingly idiotic character.

Not that that episode (IMO) was anything to write home about!

But Tasha 2.0 utterly ruined the show.

    YES!

    I remember that.

She got her Tasha killed off so she could be in "PET SEMATARY"!

In hindsight, clearly not too much later, Denise Crosby wished that she'd buried TASHA YAR in the Pet Sematary ;)

IIRC, the producers of TNG did want to bring Tasha Yar back and considered just having her captured and brainwashed by the Romulans into serving them.

    But.

Again IIRC (from half remembered issues of Cinefantastique) various people on staff at TNG thought that would damage the character of Yar and make her appear weak.

If they had given the whole matter more (& intelligent) thought, perhaps they could've actually have had a 22 years older Tasha show up?!?!

Perhaps after decades of hiding &/or on the run so as not to interfere (any more) with history(?)!

Instead of the irritatingly useless git Sela!

Perhaps they could've had it so Tasha & Castillo escaped the ships destruction in escape pods?

Then they return home to the UFP after the events of "Yesterday's Enterprise".

Throwing in some real world science might not be a bad idea either here.

Maybe Tasha [& Castillo(?)] 's escape vehicle (pod, shuttlecraft, whatever?) traveled at sublight speed(s), resulting in relativistic effects [at least for some unknown percentage of their escape journey(?)], such as her [them(?)] returning home in 2366 [or later(?)], but having hardly aged at all!

But, unfortunately we got Sela instead! Denise Crosby, & all involved in executing her silly asinine Sela idea, should hang their heads in embarrassed shame.

I don't dislike Sela exactly - actually I liked the idea - I just feel that her character was completely wasted. Beyond the initial shock of her initial appearance, her being Tasha's daughter was completely immaterial to anything else going on in the story.

Yeah, if her being Tasha's daughter meant the crew had to wrestle with their consciences' fighting her then it might have offered something, but she was such an unrelenting foe that Picard made it clear within minutes of talking to her that he wasn't going to use kid gloves just because of the Tasha link. Hell, for all Guinan's speechifying he didn't even need to concern himself with the fact that alt-Picard was semi-responsible for putting Tasha on the Ent-C in the first place.

Likewise, with anyone else who'd boffed Tasha, the fact she looked just like her mom might have caused issues, but for Data? I doubt the physical appearance comes into it - he had more trouble with Ishara but she at least reminded him of Tasha's personality - Sela was a lot different.

Interestingly, Star Trek: Online does little to redeem Sela either - she's a scheming snake all the way through, even after being deposed as Empress and kept prisoner by the Iconians for over a year. In fact, it's her inability to let the destruction of Romulus go that actually winds up CAUSING it through temporal shenanigans.

There's a lot you could do there, especially if this talk of the show following multiple ships/crews is true - the post-NEM novels have developed the Trekniverse quite a lot even without getting to the big Romulan kaboom yet. Both that setting and STO have naturally expanded some of the concepts from the shows - new tech and info brought back by Voyager develops into experimental post-warp technologies like transwarp gates, limited slipstream drive, mobile emitters (not as small as the Doctor's but enough to enable more use of holograms - Emergency Security Holograms, Emergency Engineering Holograms... but also more campaigning for definitions of holo-sentience). Data returns in both settings, in STO overwriting (not by choice) B-9's matrix and in the novels brought back by Noonien Soong into a new, advanced body (into which Soong had transferred his mind after Lore's attack in Brothers). The novels shake things up a bit more than STO, but STO is set further into the future (2410).

Yeah, B-4. Wasn't there some rumour he was called B-9 (benign) in an early script to make his "innocence" even more apparent so it was shocking that he turned out to be Shinzon's patsy?

It's about time for a Romulan crewmember. Especially if they model Romulan society on the one seen in the source material for the Last Unicorn Games RPG, or the breakaway colonies from STO that gave up on Imperial rule after the homeworld was destroyed.

I recently watched an interview with Brent Spiner about the new series and he did say something about B-9. If they do go post Nemesis, I'd be fine with that.

In the actual official canonuity of STAR TREK, you have ~8 years between the end of Nemesis (2379) & the destruction of Romulus (2387), in which numerous stories of all kinds could be told.
