Which was for the best, since apparently it suggested he was going to be serving aboard the Titan, which would be an ever bigger character-rape than putting Worf back behind the tactical station.

Yup. The Titan novels don't follow up on it, but there's a video segment in the Trek show in Vegas where Wheaton appears as Lt. Wesley Crusher, assistant chief engineer of the Titan. Tim Russ is in it too, since Tuvok is Titans second officer.

It doesn't even have to be a net all around the star. Just setup a net to capture energy and start building. As the Replicators builds they also expand the net leading to even more power being absorbed to be replicated to build the sphere and more net parts. Eventually you will build around the whole star.

Shit I'd bet we could replicate a Dyson sphere in a few months and not even use proto-matter! ;)

I suppose the self replicating mine field that use in DS9 to block the wormhole could be used, just preprogram it to replicate in the correct pattern, lay out your first piece and hit the start button.

Precisely what I was thinking. If you got the ability to convert energy into matter and matter into energy you can pretty much build anything.

^Exactly - at that point you just need someone with good materials science and the ability to use something like 3D Studio Max, and voila! Pretty much anything you could think of.

Sure, you'd need to do a few prototypes first, but if you have that tech the only real limits are science and imagination.

    Entirely agree.

Eh. The visuals were pretty, but the not-battle was ugly.

Your script looks good, at least at first glance. Certainly it looks to be more cohesive than the actual movie.

No, but seriously... what happened to all the other Trek review threads?

Other than the Voyager review thread (which Kyle has taken a hiatus from) none of the other series specific review threads have managed to get past the first couple episodes I think...

I'm now actually tempted to take up the challenge of reviewing either DS9 or TOS and the TOS movies... the latter would definitely be an easier task... but I don't own all the TOS episodes... just the good ones.

Maybe its time I got a PS3 and picked up the Blu-Ray sets?

And I'm not really sure if my reviews of Ds9 would be entertaining... I liked almost every episode and most of my reviews would consist of "well, that was another good episode..."

I'm actually in the middle of rewatching nuBSG at the moment. Was thinking of doing a review thread but the show is just so densely plotted and the themes are so large, I'm not really sure I have the wit or writing ability to comment on the series.

Would anyone here be interested in reviews of the entire Smallville series?

Any ideas?? I've never seen Babylon 5 before so that might be an interesting series to review, from a n00bs perspective. Y'all would have to be careful about spoilers though. I've never seen Xena: WP in its entirety and have been thinking about watching those episodes.

Is that show worth watching? I know Jeriko was a fan... and I'm sure the show has tons of wank material, though I don't know if the episodes are substantive enough to merit discussion.

Or.... Robotech! But I doubt anyone here would find that interesting...

I guess DS9 would be the most interesting one to do. But I need to finish nuBSG first. I'm a few episodes into season 2 right now.

I did mini-reviews of nuBSG through S3, IIRC, though they've probably all been lost to time by now. They basically consisted of the following:

    • Kickass space battle! Fuck yeah!
    • Caprica? Again? Fucking Caprica.
    • Bill Adama is fucking awesome.
    • Tigh is fucking awesome.
    • Lee & Starbuck? Again? Fucking soap opera bullshit.
    • THE GODDAMNED BLACK MARKET EPISODE.
    • The Cylons are more interesting than the Humans.
    • OK, never mind.
    • New Caprica? Again? Fucking New Caprica.
    • I know Helo's a fuckup, I don't need it drilled into my skull.
    • I know Starbuck's a fuckup, I don't need it drilled into my skull.

Overall, I enjoyed the series, but I was hacking up soap bubbles the entire time I watched it. I hope to restart my Voyager reviews soon.

Yeah, I'm not really sure how to review individual episodes of nuBSG because everything is so arc-based, there are no real standalone episodes...

    Hmm....

I think ST:TOS would be the most fun to review because like TNG there is lots of good, lots of bad, and lots of silly. And I could be done with them quick.

Ah well. Look forward to your continued Voyager reviews!

I'm still on DS9, I've just taken a break. I'm trying to see if I can get DS9 from a friend instead of watching it at blinx.com, since it would be more honest that way. :P

I'm sure this has been mentioned before. I don't feel like reading every page. The first season/season and a half were suposed to be TOS episodes AFAIR, so that's why they seem like rehashes. I agree though, the first thee seasons are not as good. Still,TNG is my favorite of all the Trek's. Had TOS had more seasons, it would probably be my favorite.

And if they did that, there would have been no The Inner Light or Tapestry.

/Just reading this thread for the first time, good stuff.

If they killed of Picard, TNG would have ended right then and there, at lest for me. I like Ryker , but Picard made the show.

Has anyone bothered to pick up TNG on Blu-Ray? How is it? Big difference?

I have the whole series on DVD but I don't think I can justify spending the money to upgrade. I do have TOS on Blu-Ray...

I thought Patrick Stewart/Picard were vastly overrated.

I would've been fine if he had perished in "The Best of Both Worlds II"

I don't think he is overrated at all. Patrick Stewart was excellent. Anyone who can turn an old, grumpy, distinguished, bald-headed Frenchman into a heroic, legendary, and commanding starship captain has got to be a pretty good actor...

A Frenchman with an English accent . . . :garamet:

Early in the series I did not like Picard. As it went along he really grew on me.

Picard was wimpy and uninspiring to me. Though I'll admit that he was excellent in "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "The Inner Light".

    But.

Note, in both of those he was playing different characters than OUR Picard. In "Yesterday's Enterprise" he was the same man but reshaped by 20 years of warfare.

In "The Inner Light" for most of the show he was another character entirely.

I never liked "Tapestry" in the least because

    1) It featured "Q". A character I loathe to this day. As annoying as Wesley on a bad day.

    2) It was ulimately just an "It's A Wonderful Life" episode. And that has been done and redone many times.

Unbelievably better than the DVDs. Other than season 2, which was done by a different company, I think they did a better job than the TOS upgrade (although, to be fair, they pretty much had to rebuild each SFX scene from scratch on the TOS Blu Rays.)

Couldn't agree more. I like John de Lancie but couldn't stand the Q character.
