Woody Harrelson is in talks to play Han solo's mentor in the Han solo prequel.

    For real?

    Seriously?

That would be interesting as Woody Harrelson, traditionally, isn't a Sci-Fi actor at all.

He'll always be Woody from "CHEERS" to me!

    Early talks.
Joaquin Phoenix was in "early talks", for Dr. Strange.
    I hope it pans out.

Woody was in "Hunger Games", and he's going to be the villain in the next Apes movie.

BUT, this Han Solo flick is also supposed to have a more light-hearted flavor than Rogue One, and Woody can do comedy.
He's got the range, whatever he's playing, he can deliver.

When we'll get to see the film is a big question.

Just stick to the one movie a year program. I'm fine with that and it doesn't over saturate.

Do you think they'll mildly CGI Alden Heizenwhiffen's face to be more Harrison Ford-ish?

Maybe the Tarkin / Leia stuff from Rogue One was a dry run to see if people would buy that kind of thing?

Nah, Mon Mothma and General Dodonna were recasted, they should just let it be.

But the actress they got for Mon Mothma really looks like the original actress. Its like casting Tilda Swinton to play David Bowie, you can't get much closer.

Right, but that wasn't the first appearance of Mon Mothma in a franchise film.

Big fan of Woody. Still not interested in a Han Solo movie though. They'd have to wheel out Ford and Billy Dee for a bookend to make me see this and legitimise it.

I don't want a Boba Fett movie, unless it's an interesting story about the guy Fett is chasing. I don't want a Boba Fett life story. The character's coolness rests substantially on his mystery, and the prequels have already done quite enough to dissipate that.

And I really, really, really don't want a Yoda movie. Yoda's a colorful supporting character, but that's how he should stay.

An Obi-Wan: The Lost Years movie with Ewan McGregor, however, I could very much get behind. It should see Obi-Wan go on some adventure where the secret of Luke's existence is in peril.

Pretty sure that's due at the end of this seasons Rebels, but it would've made a worthwhile live story. The only problem is where do you fit the space battle in without a b-story? Any Obi-wan story isn't going to leave Tatooine without introducing supporting characters to do the flying.

It looks like Rebels is going to kill Maul, so that rules that out. How to get Kenobi off Tatooine? Someone finds out about Luke and kidnaps him in hopes to receive some sort of reward from the Emperor. Owen seeks Kenobi out to rescue him. That someone would probably have to be an established high profile character. How do they find out? Perhaps this individual tortures Ezra and he finally lets the info out. A good candidate would be Thrawn, which would explain why he doesn't show up in the OT. Or you could do a Logan type movie.

    Nope, violates continuity.
ANH clearly gives the impression that Owen has mostly kept Luke away from Ben/Obi, everything from the Tusken attack onward is their first adventure together.

I could imagine a story where young Luke leaves Tatooine for some reason--although it's never stated in ANH, it certainly seems like Luke has been in space before--and Obi-Wan follows him clandestinely to protect him. Luke gets into some trouble and Obi-Wan has to extricate him from it--without revealing himself as a Jedi. Complications further ensue, and Obi-Wan has to not only keep Luke safe, but he has to keep both of their identities from coming to light.

Yeah, you can't take Luke off planet before ANH.
OTOH, I don't think it's implausible for him and Kenobi to have met on occasion before the Tusken attack. Quite to the contrary, at the end of RotS, Owen had no reason to resent Kenobi. Why the animosity so many years later?

Why not? There's nothing that says Luke's never been off Tatooine before. And some pretty solid circumstantial evidence ("Who's gonna fly it, kid? You?" "You bet I could! I'm not such a bad pilot myself!", the fact that Luke seems completely unfazed by going into space, his immediate skill with an X-Wing, etc.) indicates he's got some experience in space.
And I think ANH makes it absolutely clear that they had. My impression is that they had bumped into each other quite a few times over the years, as one might expect if Kenobi were watching over Luke.
Continuity fail in the prequels. Owen is supposedly mad that Anakin followed "old Obi-Wan on some damned fool crusade," but (1) he hardly knew Anakin at the time, so would hardly have been all broken up about his supposed death, (2) when Anakin last saw Owen (at least that we saw), he wasn't going off to fight any war, and (3) Owen didn't even know Obi-Wan, let alone well enough to gauge how much influence he had on Anakin.

I dunno... the T-16 has an operational ceiling of 300km (wookiepedia) which would be high enough for him to have tasted space, but not actually been there. That'd explain his hunger (and brashness about being able to pilot a ship to Alderaan) to get off world.

Not stated in the film, therefore not an issue. Also, even if Luke owned a T-16, that doesn't preclude the possibility that he flew other ships. Maybe Luke had a "summer job" :diacanu: helping maintain satellites orbiting Tatooine and picked up the flying skills we'd see him use later.
Either (1) Luke has some experience as a space pilot [my guess], (2) Luke is incredibly over-confident about his own abilities, or (3) interstellar ship piloting is easy.

I can't imagine an analogous situation with an airplane: (2) would be fatal, and (3) is not true.

No it doesn't, Luke clearly knew Ben Kenobi. As long as he doesn't see him use the force or a lightsaber, it's fine.

I think that's right. Luke clearly knows very little about the Jedi, and is unaware that Kenobi was one, or that Kenobi knew his father ("He died about the same time as your father." "He knew my father?" "I told you to drop it.").

Besides, in my scenerio he's kidnapped, so maybe he's taken to Curosaunt and is in awe of it and that's why he wants off Tatooine so bad. He's seen other worlds and knows there's better places out there.

A kidnapping might work. Or maybe Luke runs away or gets involved in some activity that winds up unexpectedly taking him off-world, and Uncle Owen calls in Kenobi to go find him.

Oh! And while Luke's on his adventure, someone overhears his name and asks if he was related to Anakin (without letting on that Anakin was a Jedi). This someone knew Anakin as a Jedi and decides the Empire might be willing to pay for this information.

    Something like this...
