They looked at groups with overtly political-sounding names and asked whether they were engaging in political activity? What am I missing here?

Sounds to me like sorry doesn't do it. So they're not satisfied with 'sorry' and are pressing for 'doesn't do it.' There's no :drama: to that.

So is the NYT gonna publish an apology for saying that there was nothing nefarious going on at the IRS and the targeted groups were just a bunch of tin foil hat wearing paranoids?

That taking advantage of a complicated tax loophole is the inalienable right of any group that believes in small government?

"in which the agency acknowledged that it inappropriately flagged conservative groups for additional review during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. "

    Translation:

We already cleared these groups but because they are against Obama we're going to put them through the ringer a 2nd time.

Notice that the IRS did not do the same thing to groups who were against Romney.

That's the problem. And it's pure bullshit to blame this on some "low-level workers in Cincinnati and was not motivated by political bias".

All during the 2012 campaign the IRS is harassing groups over their tax status and if the groups didn't have the proper tax status they could be barred from doing things during the campaign.

If you believe the bull shit the IRS is selling then I've got a couple bridges to sell you.

I'll never forget Limbaugh getting sick and having to be hospitalized while on vacation to Hawaii and after he gets out he has this press conference where he talks about what wonderful care he got at the hospital and says this why he never wants to see universal care put into effect because he could never get such high quality care if universal care passed.

Except... Hawaii does have universal care and has had it since the 1960's. :obamanotamused:

So I'm guessing somebody has a list of equivalent groups that weren't questioned?

Can't politicize the IRS - somebody needs their nuts in a drawer for this one. Fire the low level guys involved, and have their boss fall on their sword. And yes, this one needs an investigation.

The freaky-deaks have spent the past 6 years screaming about the Kenyan Usurper and the need for armed revolution, and then they cry like little girls when the IRS comes knocking for an audit?

    So who are they?

It's possible that some groups were improperly flagged for review while similar ones weren't; it's also possible that an IRS official without much backbone caved under pressure from a sector of the U.S. political community that thrives on feeling persecuted.

What kind of nonsense is this? That you need a list of those who weren't harassed?

The IRS has admitted it targeted conservative groups during the 2012 campaign.

You don't need a list of those who weren't targeted because it is irrelevant.

AP EXCLUSIVE: IRS KNEW TEA PARTY TARGETED IN 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups as early as 2011, according to a draft of an inspector general's report obtained by The Associated Press that seemingly contradicts public statements by the IRS commissioner.

The IRS apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. The agency blamed low-level employees, saying no high-level officials were aware.

But on June 29, 2011, Lois G. Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, learned at a meeting that groups were being targeted, according to the watchdog's report. At the meeting, she was told that groups with "Tea Party," `'Patriot" or "9/12 Project" in their names were being flagged for additional and often burdensome scrutiny, the report says.
