I mean, I could be wrong, but my take on it is that the "alt-right" started out as conservatives who did not see themselves as traditional conservatives or Republicans, and that the white nationalists latched onto it an basically ruined it. Kind of like what happened with the Tea Party movement. You are correct that the term is now associated with racism, though this could simply be due to propaganda from the "idiots on the left" as that is what they mean anyway when they throw the term about and try to label anyone who disagrees with them with the term. Hell, I'm sure they'd happily slap the term on you.

I agree with Tererun here to a point.....the police/authorities should act on a specific threat only. You could even include a semi-specific threat in this. But very open, vague, implied threats? That's a slippery slope. And sorry, it's not just about "letting Nazis snap". The Fort Hood crazy radicalized doctor who shot up his own workplace was not a Nazi. The army had plenty of ammo (no pun intended) to nail his ass but let it slide because being a Muslim officer he was a minority and the army has to promote diversity at all costs. In this case the cost was a shit-load of bodies. So in this case they did not act on it because he was a muslim and such are army politics. Granted that is just one institution not an entire nation of civilians. Trust me the army (or any government agency) will round up a Nazi or white supremacist in a New York minute, and they have done so in the past.

Bottom line the "authorities" by which I mean the FBI, law enforcement at all levels, schools at all levels, churches at all levels if necessary (good luck with that) mental health at all levels, employers at all levels, etc. need to be on the same sheet of music, full stop.
