The ultimate proof that this was a bad resolution is that not a single other person, not even a member of his own party, decided to second the resolution. Neither party supported it because the resolution was stupid as well as likely unconstitutional.

And that is just reality, folks. Please continue with your usual :lolol::aurora::bitchtroll::bullshit::busheepballoons::conspiracy::droolingidiot:

With the general caveat that I don't actually care for "non-binding resolutions" that do nothing but state an opinion without actually DOING something, there's nothing in the text of THIS particular resolution that would have raised my hackles.

I hate that I am defending Democrats, the guy that made the motion to hear the proposal is the only Democrat on the Committee. "A member of his own party" didn't even EXIST that could have seconded the motion.

Don't believe me? Here they are.

    Bud Hulsey - Republican

Darren Jernigan - Democrat - Made motion to consider

    Mary Littleton - Republican

    Bob Ramsey - Republican

Can someone clear this up? I thought this was one of those committees where the second would have to come from the other faction. But perhaps I am wrong?

I’d have to know more about exactly what you mean but I don’t see a problem with monitoring extremist websites and outlets to identify threats and hopefully neutralizing when a situation becomes legally actionable. Muslim extremist, right wing extremist, black extremist... why would that matter?

Or perhaps it was 'domestic'? The article doesn't really make a clear case either way.

It does say that the GOP considers a mob marching under the swastika a 'celebration of controversial historical figures and organizations', which I am going to be using from now on in my classes as an illustration of the divergence between semantically accurate and pragmatically appropriate.

Oh, that was it? So it's all about the fucking "South will rise again!" BS... they're worried we'll start adding anyone waving the Confederate flag to a watchlist.

We can already monitor sales of "I <3 my sister!" T-shirts, guys.

If you want to have some "fun" learning about current TN politics you'll want to check this page out. There's a whole lotta shit there, but the "entertaining" part has to do with the current TN speaker of the House. A guy by the name of Glen Casada. He's been under a lot of pressure lately.

Part of it has to do with Rep. Byrd. He was a high school coach who has admitted to groping underage girls while coach. When a group of women showed up at the state capital to suggest that perhaps Byrd's not the kind of guy we want in office, not only did they end up getting arrested, but Casada (briefly) put Byrd on a sub-committee related to education. It gets "better."

There was an activist pressuring Casada about certain issues, and Casada got a restraining order against the activist. Doesn't matter where you fall on this issue, but it's what Casada's chief of staff did next that counts. He gave a poorly doctored email to the authorities which he claimed showed that the activist was violating the restraining order. Think the idiots who tried to claim that they had someone willing to testify that Mueller had sexually harassed them, and you'll have an idea of how poorly this was done.

[Ron Popeil] But wait, there's more! [/RP]

Once news of that broke, other details about Casada and his chief of staff started coming out. Like text messages about the chief of staff bragging how he'd sexually harassed women and various racist texts that he'd sent to people like Casada. Along with the identities of folks that Casada had gotten cushy, high-paying state jobs, who never showed up for work, but did get a check.

Casada's chief of staff has resigned, and even Republicans are saying that Casada needs to go. :corn:
