Where's @Amaris? I know she was shedding crocodile tears about similar things happening to indigenous kids in Canada a while ago, you think she'd be outraged over this. Oh, but some of those Ukrainian kids live in the same towns as Nazis, so those kids can eat shit and die. :dayton:

And now it turns out that the weapon was a gift from Croatia to Ukraine.

Azerbaijjan officially sides with Ukraine. Today they called Russia an occupier, aggressor and condemned Moscow for crimes against humanity in Ukraine on national television. They also threatened Iran with the separation of Azerbaijanis from Tehran’s rule.

The Russians stole the remains of Grigory Potempkin from the Kherson Cathedral. Apparently Putin is obsessed with him. Apart from being a bizarre thing to do (necrotheft?) it kind of indicates that they don't expect to hold the city.

More worrying is the claim that Ukraine attacked grain ships with drones, which Russia is using as a pretext to pull out of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. This looks like a targeted Russian effort to turn opinion against Ukraine if it's seen that food shortages are resulting from "their" actions.

A convoy of 13 ships is testing Putin's renewed blockade of grain out of Odessa. After recent attacks on the Black Sea fleet we'll see if they have any ability to interdict.

Sure, that happens at public campaign rallies.

What doesn't happen in Democratic rallies?

The politicians and candidates don't call for them to be beaten and then promise to pay the legal fees for anyone who does their violence for them.

In the meantime, Ukraine has acknowledged it has received 12 Archer mobile artillery systems from Sweden.

60 km range with the Excalibur rocket assisted munition. Can deploy in 15 seconds, 155 mm rounds can be fired, up to 9 a minute. HIMARs just got a friend.

I’m confused, did you think I support such things or voted for someone who did?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is interesting in that this is the first time in…. half a century? seventy years we are seeing US and NATO equipment being used in a situation where the users DON’T have air dominance*. The Shoot’n’Scoot capabilities of HIMARS, CAESAR and now Archers are being put on full display.

On the flip side the (lack of) performance of the Russian Air Force and Air Defense Artillery haven’t really made the case we need to be preparing for such a situation. I think we should personally but objectively speaking the facts on the ground don’t really support the idea that we will lose air dominance any time soon.

*Fun fact some Ukrainian staff person pushed back on the idea that we planned the Kharkiv Offensive by saying that while our planners are some of the best in the world we simply have neither the experience nor doctrine to plan an offensive operation w/out air superiority. Ouch.

[edit] Just to be clear this supposed inability to plan an operation w/out air superiority is I believe overblown.

We can do it. We just don’t have a lot of experience doing and probably don’t train a whole lot on doing it at anything above the Brigade level.

Which makes sense as training should be realistic. And until recently we have been involved in a lot more COIN type wars than Great Power wars.

Also, I think it highlights one of our great strengths.
Post Goldwater/Nichols we don’t have Navy Planners, Army Planners, Air Force Planners, etc. Everything is Joint. So while other militaries might have strategists that can draw out a purely land force attack and then others add on pieces our planners think holistically from the start.

I think you aren't nearly as clever as you think with your concern trolling.

Yes, there are more pro-peace protesters on the left.

But Biden is POTUS, and we will continue to back Ukraine as long as that is true.

The guys who will actually cut off aid to Ukraine are the GOP.

I’m fine with supporting Ukraine to an extent, but the GOP does have a point that we should be putting America first and spend money domestically. Libertarians are also calling for peace and if nukes are on the table, Biden should take that a little more seriously.

Yeah, those sanctions are really cutting in to donations for the GOP and its sock puppet, the Libertarian party. Give peace a chance! After all, all that does is give Putin everything he wants to gain out of the war - all the strategic minerals, natural gas, oil, and his warm water port on the Black Sea.

And don't give me that 'spend money domestically' bullshit. Neither the GOP or the Libertarians support that at all. Not unless it feeds the trough for the rich, and no one really believes in trickle down anymore. Even the fans know it is a lie - they just like that lie. They'll be rich too some day!
