What's the current death toll on Russian senior officers winding up dead? Have more of them been killed in Ukraine than died from sausages on Feb 7th, 1981?

    One of the replies:

There is a Soviet joke: Three cell mates chat in the prison on why they end up in Jail. The 1st person: "I am in jail because I support Nikolai Bukharin." The 2nd: "I am in jail because I am against Nikolai Bukharin." The last person: "I am Nikolai Bukharin."

So, 16 admirals and 12 generals in 1981, with 10 generals and 0 admirals in Ukraine. We need to get Ukraine some sausages!

This doesn't bode too well as regards Putin's long-term plans:

    https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...aining-in-schools_uk_637096abe4b0d82d23a838bd

They want 140 hours of academic study on this. But they aren't putting it in place until Sept 2023... so Putin is in this for the long haul. Given it'd be at least a couple of years before these kids are out of school and conscripted...

One possibility is he realizes that so many soldiers have died/will die in Ukraine that combined with populist backlash to the defeat/loss of soldiers he’ll need a fresh supply to hold down his domestic population, especially in the ethnic areas.

Indonesian officials: Russian FM Lavrov taken to hospital

He's having "heart problems." Didja know that digitalis is a common heart medicine that in too large of a dose is fatal? Foxglove is the plant that produces digitalis (indeed the scientific name for it is Digitalis purpurea). The leaves of the plant wouldn't look out of place in a salad. Not saying that dude was poisoned with it, but given his age, he's probably already taking it, and upping the dose wouldn't be hard, because my understanding is it doesn't take much of the leaves to give someone a fatal dose.

Russian missiles have killed two people in Poland. Apparently they went astray or some such. A dangerous moment.

Aren't military drones subject to the same sort of end-user certification as other arms deals?

Shadow war continues apace in Russia - man they are dropping a lot of bodies in leadership. https://twitter.com/igorsushko/status/1593120830908616704

Vadim #Boyko, Russian Navy Colonel & Deputy Head of Makarov Pacific Higher Naval School in #Vladivostok has been killed in his office with 5 bullets to the chest. He was heavily involved in Putin's mobilization efforts. Russia propaganda reports it was suicide (I am not kidding).

And the US not only had 50m more people in 1970 than Russia has today but thanks to the baby boom we had disproportionately large number of young men at the time. Unlike Russia who’s population is shrinking and disproportionately old.

Then you have all the young people who have fled due to the sanctions and then mobilization. Some will come back eventually but many will not.

The long term demographic repercussions on Russia will be debilitating.
