    Sounds like wishful thinking

Putin's still got millions to conscript and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it despite logistically not likely to be able to undertake such a thing. He's entered true madman status

Yeah, the big problem is going to be outfitting those troops. Though he did just have several of his supply chain people thrown out windows, so perhaps he believes that will be an incentive.

Throwing bodies at the problem is very old school Soviet/Russian. Will they stand up to modern weapons on the battlefield? Seems unlikely. It seems even more unlikely he'll be able to feed them, and as they are going to be passive in defense, they can't live off the land like an attacking army can.

Going to be a lot more dead bodies soon unless Putin himself kicks the bucket.

And honestly, one reason to think that Ukraine Intel might be right on this one - they believe that the mobilization this time will come disproportionately from larger urban cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg, as opposed to from minorities in more rural regions.

That is definitely a more problematic domestic issue for political stability. Guess we'll see.

Also, the current Russian federation has a significantly smaller pool of people to pull from, than the Soviet Union. Russia is fighting this war like it doesn't know that.

Is this because it's logistically easier to round people up in the cities, or because the military is afraid that people who aren't ethnic Russians will be too likely to sympathize with Ukraine?

Not to mention the brain drain that happened when Russians decided to jump ship. These Mobiks aren't going to be the best, and brightest.

The former, plus there's been resistance in the outer areas. My understanding is that they focused their early efforts there, but ethnic minorities in rural areas are minorities in harder to reach areas, so ultimately they will have to mobilize from the population dense areas.

Of course, those people are more politically connected and could potentially cause more problems. So should be interesting to see how that is received. Seems like there are a lot of Russian citizens that are really keen on someone else conquering Ukraine for them.

Britain confirms it will be sending Challenger 2 MBTs to Ukraine. Germany continues to hold up Poland from sending Leopard 2s, is not willing to do so unless the US sendsd Abrams.

Well, I'm sure we can count on Putin's allies in the House of Representatives doing everything they can to prevent that.

Not just Challenger 2s but as importantly THIRTY AS-90s. I believe that alone will be the largest batch of Western SPGs they have.

The Daily Mail is also reporting Apaches but… you know… Daily Mail.

I feel pretty good that after the Rammstein Conference later this week some kind of agreement will be reached on the Leopards. Poland is claiming to have five allied nations willing to chip in tanks, parts and support. I doubt the SPD can stand up to that.

Why would Poland need to take military action against the Seattle Police Department? :chris:

Well, see, after Seattle defunded the police and BLM and Antifa burned it to the ground, the SPD formed an elite paramilitary squad dedicated to seeking out and consuming the best donuts in the world. On their way across North America, they stopped in the Midwest and discovered Paczkis, which they liked so much that they dropped everything and headed for Poland. They've been sitting at the border in their patrol cars for months now.

And, historically, Poland has always been part of the SPD. The SPD is simply looking for a return of what was once theirs and to protect members of the SPD that are in Poland and being mistreated by the Polish government.

    Hardy-hat-har.

The Social Democratic Party (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands).

My understanding is that both the Greens and the FDP (junior members of the coalition government) want Germany to do more to help Ukraine and to beef up the Bundeswehr. Both things which are popular and Schultz has promised to do but has been slow walking.
