One where we are the universe made manifest, trying to figure itself out. And as we have both learned, sometimes the universe requires a change of perspective.

Like every sentient race having it's own version of Swedish meatballs.

It seems to me that in retrospect, there is a strong argument that the peace deal that was on the table in April 2022 should have been accepted. This would have traded Ukrainian neutrality for Russian withdrawal (other than from Crimea). It was scuttled by the west (see Boris Johnson) who would also have needed to sign on as guarantors.

There are certainly problems with the terms as are being reported but they are far preferable to how this is likely to end up.

"Other than from Crimea" seems problematic. The message to aggressive, expansionist nations would be "you can just roll into your neighbor's territory and take what you want, and everyone will roll over and let you have it in exchange for you not taking more."

Everyone has been screaming for Putin to stop attacking Ukraine since it started.

Do you need help? Are you having a stroke? Did you accidentally take your mom's whole supply of fentanyl? Is it crack? Are you on crack?

I am telling you that you need to lay the fuck off of the goofballs. You really need to stop.

The deal "on the table" where Russia wanted:
    • Ukraine to not be able to join any mutual defence treaties
    • Ukraine to have a neutered military
    • The only guarantee for protecting Ukraine against further Russian attacks to be a collection of guarantee nations, who Russia wanted to require unanimous support to act in any future defence of Ukraine
Yes, sounds like a real sure fire lead to peace in our time.

I completely agree. It's not good, but the way things are going it will be much worse. The idea that Ukraine will now somehow roll the Russians back, retake Crimea and impose their terms is absolute fantasy.

That ship has sailed long ago - both for Russia and for others guilty of aggression, including the United States. The principle of greater force is the one by which the international arena works, in practice if not in law.

This is what happens when you let international corporations be in control of the backbone of communications. They are going to make money without ethics or concern for your military and political alliances.

This is how capitalism works. It is also why russia and china do not have starlink up yet.

Donald Trump will not fund Ukraine's fight against Russia's invasion if he is elected US president again, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has said.

"He will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end," the conservative premier said after meeting Mr Trump in Florida.

The former US president has pledged to end the war "within 24 hours" if elected - but provided no details.

It is true that a lot of wars would end if, whenever their territory is invaded by an aggressive neighbor, invaded countries just shrugged and said "meh, OK, you can have us."

Don't see how much worse, all that would have done was slightly postpone Russia doing what they're doing now, except with Ukraine being in less of a position to defend itself.

Agreed, and these weapons were created to fight this specific enemy, and now we get to have them used without US soldiers dying and facing MAD.
