One of the two Georgia Senators has conceded defeat. Care to guess which one is taking the higher road and which one is following the Donald's lead when it comes to such things? Click HERE to find out!
Nah, friends and I have a standing agreement to not do anything sexual with anyone who supports right wing nutters.
excuse me what was that? I couldn't quite hear what you said, some left wing nutter was rambling on about something. Panties too tight or whatever - always bitching about something.
I gotta say, that surprised me. Despite Loeffler's loss being by a bigger margin, I had pegged her as the Trumpier of the two and thought Perdue would be the first to acknowledge reality.
I have to say it’s about time the racist runoff system bit them in the ass. I expect the GA Republicans to re-evaluate that system as well. They will have a laser focus on the most populous counties with the largest African American populations. Disenfranchising voters ranks up there as one of the primary reasons why I refuse to vote for Republicans.
Interesting! If Pak can prove that Trump forced/intimidated/coerced him to resign could he then sue Trump, if even only in a civil case? Raul and the other lawyers what say you?
At a guess with no particular knowledge about employment law, probably not because as a general rule, members of the executive branch not covered by the civil service serve at the pleasure of the president and can be fired essentially at will. If Pak were to allege some form of racial discrimination or something where there's a law that specifically protects someone from being fired, that would be one thing. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. Usually a president is relatively hands off with how U.S. Attorney's offices function, but I don't think there could be civil liability for firing someone/forcing someone out even if it's transparently a corrupt and cynical move. I doubt that there could be a criminal case brought unless there was something that made it clear beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump was firing him as part of some sort of corruption. As long as Trump could say, I wanted him to conduct an inquiry
Looks like Perdue conceded on Friday, in a statement where he said that he won the general election and did not name Ossoff. He also did not call Ossoff to congratulate him directly. Total school on the 4th of July move. (No class) https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/politics/perdue-concedes-georgia-senate-race-ossoff/index.html
When you see Perdue being represented by an empty chair in the runoff debate you can only conclude the guy was scared shitless. Not a good look for a Senator. I’m glad he lost.
you would be wrong. Perdue was arrogant IMHO by not showing up. Perdue's official reason was that he's not great at public speaking and being the incumbent Georgian's already knew what his positions were. He thought it was a high risk, low reward situation so he sat it out.
I'm sure other Republicans told him it was a bad idea. Whether it was actually a factor in him losing we'll never know.
I’m going by the Republican rules of engagement. If someone refuses to engage with a right winger they get labeled scared, weak, cowardly, or a combination of those. What Perdue did was textbook scared.
That's your opinion and I can't disprove it. Regardless he lost and I'm chalking it up to arrogance & laziness.
Fun fact: I think this will be the first time (except maybe in the first Congress; I don't know when the order was established) that two senators' order of precedence will get all the way down through the lengthy list of rules and end up being determined by alphabetical order. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seniority_in_the_United_States_Senate
I don’t know if this is still the case, @Asyncritus? But back in the day it was common for electeds in France to NOT resign prior positions, but stack them. So you could be the Minister of the Interior, an MP, Departmental Councilor and Mayor of your city all at the same time. So I’m just imagining Osseff and Wornock in a horse race to add state and local positions and switching offices back and forth as it goes. (I have no idea if Georgia election law allows this, just find it humorous.)
