I would think don't leave them in plain sight just for the fact that your home insurance company might not be too happy on paying out for your loss if you are robbed. You know how that shit goes - they always try to find a way to blame it on you. :brood:

If it's on the basis of "kids could break in and take your guns!" :drama: I say we should double down. Tuckerfan, Jenne, Steve 2 by 4, and a few others should take EVERY FUCKING DANGEROUS ONJECT IN THEIR HOMES that could possibly be used as a weapon and lock them up every time they leave the house. :D

And do you both think locking them up would prevent the intruders from finding them or breaking the locks?

they might move on to the next house. If time wasn't on their side they wouldn't waste too much time searching or breaking locks. But yes you have a point, if they are determined they could get the guns. So what level of securing the guns would be acceptable to you?

Nothing will 100% guarantee someone won't be able to get past your security measures no matter what safe you buy, but putting them in a good safe reduces the odds considerably. Most home burglars want to get in and out fast, so when they see a locked safe bolted to the wall and floor, they're probably going to move on to easier pickings.

Locks won't be casually broken. You'd have to come packing tools. Or just take the guns with you if only a trigger lock.

At least they won't be used against you when you arrive home.

I would leave them out of sight simply because you might do some substances that cause you to want to play with something, and you do not want easy access to dangerous things at that moment. Also, one might get extremely pissed off at a moment, not including drugs, and being able to see the gun might cause you to want to wave it around to assert your dominance and that can only end up badly. Oh, and that pissed thing might not be a person either. It might be the piece of furniture that decided to jump in front of your feet while you are walking, and you might want to teach it a lesson as to why it should never assault it's owners sensitive little toe and shoot it a few times so it learns. I have not learned this with a gun, but I have taught furniture a lesson with a large hammer.

Here's what I think is stupid. People who drive around in vehicles (almost always pickup trucks) with stickers of all of their favorite gun manufacturers plastered all over the place. If I was a criminal cruising around a Wal-Mart parking lot trying to score a firearm, guess which vehicle I'd break into first.

I thought not being around firearms while under the influence of drugs, or extremely angry was one of my more responsible and sane traits? Actually my whole trend of not having a gun around or readily available is probably pretty responsible and has provided safety for my drug induced, and natural, insanity. I may not be reliable, but irresponsible due to my drug us is wrong.

My psychotic nature also tends to be somewhat responsible. I tend to not go insane on someone when I am responsible for other people's safety and I am well noted for being a bit of a safety nazi in regards to dangerous games. So much so that I actually still get a discount on extreme sports insurance. I may do stupid shit with me in mind, but I tend to be quire responsible where others, which includes you, are concerned. That is, of course, unless you are one of the very tiny and specific number of people who have pissed me off, and no you are not one of them.

I used to hate stubbing my toe, or catching my shin on some piece of furniture. That is until neuropathy. Now I just get a little angry because I know the pain was supposed to be there. But I have lost furniture to the rage that comes from a toes stub. The only thing that has given my toe stubbing rage a conundrum is the bowling ball. How do you punish a bowling ball? It is like how do your hurt a masochist?

Yes, I am bipolar. That is one of the moments the demon truly pops out. It gets better with medication, but if you are an object (not a person or living thing) that has caused me pain, and you are cheap and easily replaces, you will be broken. It is one of the times I can let that demon out so I just let it have some fun. I also really do not own anything pricey or irreplaceable.

I have found that by giving in to the demon in certain instances it has learned to obey when I say no in other areas. You just got to let it play and understand it has a time.

Let's make what I think that everyone would agree is a reasonable assumption: The most valuable things a person can have is their own life, as well as the lives of the people that they care about. Secondary to that are the means that they have to protect those lives. Surely you'd want to make sure that if you're not home that someone doesn't have easy access to those means. I mean, an adult being able to crack a gun safe or a locked gun rack? Not really surprising. Especially if they've got a criminal record of breaking into places. A 14-year-old? That can only mean you didn't have your guns secured when you weren't home (And why is that? If you think you need guns to protect you in your house, while you're at home, why would you think that nobody would break in when they knew you weren't at home?) or that the method you were using was so unsophisticated that a 14-year-old could hack it. (I'll ignore the third possibility that you were friends with the 14-year-old and fed them the necessary information ahead of time because that's just stupid.)

I mean, let's say that a person had a whole bunch of diamonds in their house. A professional thief breaks in, steals the diamonds, nobody is going to think that the person who owned the diamonds could have done anything to prevent the thief from getting them. After all, we've seen any number of films where the professional thief knows how to do something like crack a safe, or find a hidden hiding place for valuables. Now, imagine you have someone who has a whole bunch of diamonds in their house, and those get stolen by a 14-year-old. Either that kid is some kind of wunderkind, or the person just left the diamonds laying out in the open for any idiot to find. Which do you think is more likely? Why is this situation any different?

Meh. At least Tererun is upfront about her crazy. I'd trust that over people who buy multiple guns to protect themselves from non-existent roving gangs of violent home invaders.

I get that, but ..., this was a situation in which the burgers were still in the house when the police arrived - and seemed very shocked that those kids would shoot back.

I’m wondering why the police were shocked.

I guess cops don't normally expect burglars to start shooting. Either way, I'm all but certain that those kids didn't crack a locked safe to get at those guns.

I grew up in a house full of every kind of gun. And we had them all locked up. They weren’t in a safe - not like you find them in Fallout 4, but they were intended to keep the guns in a place that ... served multiple purposes - it’s locked up, it’s not easily accessible by seven out of control delinquents, and these are not toys.

If someone broke into our house, I’m certain they would not have any trouble getting to those guns.
But, I don’t know what gun safes look like these days. You could be right.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. Break the window and look in the glove box or center console and you're likely to score a nice gun.

This is the only sticker on my truck. It's 6" wide and in the bottom left corner of the rear window. If you're nerdy/stupid enough to recognize it, we can be friends.

When I see one of "those" trucks I spontaneously break into a song of my own making. It's named "I have a tiny penis..." and it's sung to the tune of "I'm a little teapot."

The funny part is they probably think they're intimidating parking lot prowlers into not picking their vehicle. You're in the Wal Mart trying on Confederate flag T-shirts dude. Why should they be afraid to break into your truck? :wtf:

Out of curiosity, I googled that. Still didn’t know what it was so I asked James (who is a bigger geek than UA) and he didn’t know either. Is this a movie? Video game? RPG?

It's a multiplayer game Star Citizen. I had to google it too. It was weird because right off it felt familiar...then I read that it was a spiritual successor to Freelancer, and figured that must be why. I've wasted/enjoyed a shit ton of hours playing that game.
