Even with that droid arm the real, or realistic looking (feeling?) hand wouldn't take away from a "handy".
The show is definitely improving, although for some reason the fact that we routinely see Boba Fett without his helmet kinda bugs me.
Here's the original 1977 Camie played by Koo Stark: And the Book of Boba Fett Camie played by Mandy Kowalski: Pretty decent likeness! Fun fact: Koo Stark dated Prince Andrew in the early 1980s!
Yeah....but 1. the cat's been out of the bag since "Attack Of The Clones". 2. Once the cat's out of the bag, why bother with the "mystery"? Vader needed the mask to breathe, Boba doesn't. 3. Boba doesn't observe Din's religion, so there isn't even that.
Probably an unpopular opinion but… Is it just me or does Boba Fett become less interesting the more we learn about him? Of course everyone loved the character in TESB because he looked badass and had a mysterious persona. Every appearance since then has just stripped away the mystique. Especially seeing him as a kid in Episode II and the Clone Wars. I feel like The Mandalorian is already the Boba Fett show we always wanted. Djin Djarin is a better Boba Fett than the actual Boba Fett, if that makes any sense. And why is he trying so hard to be a crime boss? Why is he being so nice about the whole thing and going about it in such a limp way? I don’t get this character or his motivations at all. He seems entirely disconnected from the dude we first met in the movies who was warned not to disintegrate anyone. Now he is getting beat up while still in his pajamas. His appearances in the Mandalorian were cool and did a lot to rehabilitate the character but now it seems like they don’t know what to do with him. It’s not an awful show to watch but I feel like nothing interesting is happening and we could just be watching Mandalorian season 3 instead.
So I was thinking about this the other day. A lot of people have this shared experience of what they think Boba Fett should be like based off his appearance in the original trilogy, I get that, but I didn't have that experience. Quantum Leap was my first exposure to science fiction followed by TOS and then TNG. I didn't care about Star Wars for years, then when the movies came out on DVD (right before the special editions)t I started forming an interest in Star Wars. The point is, for me, I didn't spend my childhood with Star Wars, I was a Trek fan first. I was a teenager when I first became interested in Star Wars so I didn't have the same experience as everyone else had. For me, Boba Fett was already a popular character that I was aware of, but I wasn't invested in him as a newcomer. I was more interested in Obiwan and Luke, I didn't even care for Han that much at the time. Shortly after watching the original trilogy in 95/96, the prequels were announced. I watched them as they were released and over time became a bigger fan of Star Wars. I didn't even get invested in Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones, but in Clone Wars they expanded on the character. That's when I started giving a shit about the character. These live action shows are pretty much a continuation of the cartoons so for me, I'm still following a story line hat began twenty years ago. I didn't grow up with all of the mystique that a lot of other fans grew up with so I'm just going along for the ride.
Haven't seen any of this, but the "wants to be a crime lord but a nice one" angle is fucking daft. Folk will watch Walter White or Tony Soprano, you don't have to worry about making your main character a villain. Unless Disney is afraid of marketing a main character as a villain? I mean, their founder wasn't a great human being, so they can DO nuance. OMG, that's it... Boba is going to become the Warsverse's Walt Disney. Mickey Mandalorian and his Wookiee pal Pluto. Scrooge McHutt. He's gonna market that shit galaxy-wide, whilst turning Mos Espa into a theme park and the rest of Tatooine into retirement homes.
I mean, the Boba gen-Xers are gaga for came from their own action figure play. ...course, I also maintain this is the case for Luke and the fist-shaking towards Last Jedi, but let's not go down that rabbit hole gain.
I don’t think the problem is the telling of Boba’s story so much as it doesn't measure up to preconceived ideas. I’ve had this same problem with other stories. It’s why I always have a backup, made up (completely unrelated) story in my head. When I find myself imagining how I think a story should go or play out, I think of the other story in which I have a vested interest. Sadly, you will probably never be happy with the Boba story and therefore, should accept that you are only watching it as Mandalorian season 2.5.
What's up with him showing off his choppers all the time? It's like he wants everyone to see how chiclet looking they are.
they already did it in their halloween/sith fortress of scariness lego episode well, the theme park part at least
Agreed. The prequels ruined Boba Fett, IMO. But I do appreciate that the younger kids who didn't grow up with the original trilogy will have a different perspective. Spot on! I agree that it's not an awful show... it just doesn't seem like a Boba Fett show. I think you really nailed it with the Mandalorian analogy. That was the Boba Fett show we wanted.
I will say however that I did like his cameo appearances in the Mandalorian. He seemed pretty badass, especially considering that the actor is now 20 years older than the character he is playing. I’m not sure why he seems so ineffectual and lethargic in his own show, but there are still some episodes left so I’ll give it a chance. I have nothing against the actor. He was fine playing Jango Fett 20 years ago in Attack Of The Clones. Shit, that was 20 years ago?
one: loved that Fennec calls them "the Mods" in a double entendre two: "We can get muscle with credits"
the latter no... but the former? they'd also bring the benefit of being able to use other actors to play them. also, given how they wanna throw every possible past animated character into the mix..
Episode 4 was much better. I’m glad we got some insight into Boba’s plans. I wonder how long he was digesting inside the Sarlaac or how long he was with the Tuskens? I don’t see how he could survive for years inside the Sarlaac without food or air. But he only met Fennec during the events of the Mandalorian which is 5 years after Return of the Jedi. So was he wandering the wastes of Tatooine for years? Minor nitpick, but it seems unlikely that his ship would have stayed in Jabba’s/Fortuna’s hangar for that long. The wookie was giving me Worf vibes. Maybe because I just watched an episode of Next Generation recently.
Bad Batch became muscle for money when they became mercenaries. But, I think only Echo made it past BBY. At least, that’s what the skuttlebutt is. Still don’t think Omega is the magistrate. Rex and/or Ashoka may join Boba, but not for credits.
