For what? Telling him he was crying like a baby? For pointing out the insults so casually handed out about Americans?

Wow. Once again the modding at Wordforge shows how craptastic it is.

    Why not?

It might get some fresh blood here. And anyone who comes in for the Brit Room may give the other rooms a try.

And why don't we create an Oregon room too for all our Oregonians (me)? Also, let's create a room for Computer Scientists (me and Paladin?). Let's also create a forum just for Mac users, and one just for PC users - that one can be split into two subforums for Windows and Linux, and the Linux one can be split into subforums for each individual distro someone here uses. The Windows one can be split into Vista and XP, and never the two shall meet, otherwise endless amounts of bitching would occur.

There is a fine line between having a few giant forums (which I swear some idiots would like the Red Room to become, just a general catchall) and having such specialization that each forum maybe has three active participants and a handful of threads.

I think we've actually struck a pretty good balance here - almost all of the forums have pretty good traffic (though the RR obviously still overpowers the rest in that department), good thread turnover, and are generally accessible to anyone.

When you start segragating by nationality instead of interest where do you stop?

One of WF's strengths is how people from all over the world can share viewpoints freely and through that sharing everyone can learn something.

What would be the purpose such a forum would be needed for that isn't already handled by one of the other forums?

    What's the difference?

Yeah, like Camp Wordforge is accessible for the Brits & Europeans. We dare to go into there and we're houded out, being tokd in the process that our views on gun control are nonsense and its a subject we no nothing about. So where is the free sharing and learning there? There is already segregation. If there is to be no Brit room then there should be no Camp Wordforge, which is a forum only Americans can inhabit by virtue of their legal system. So, you see, nationalities already are being seperated.
I would allow non-Brits to avoid having to read threads on subjects that wouldn't interest them are people that wouldn't be familiar to them. If I go into Camp Wordforge I cannot engage in a debate as I am not an enthusiast and do not know enough about the types of guns available in the US to speak in any thread with any authority and I have no desire to "learn" about it as I find the basic concept of lots of men postering about how impressive their gun collections are akin to blokes who buy big fast cars to impress people and conpensate for phallic inadequacy. As a result I am pretty much excludied for that forum. So why shouldn't I have a forum where I can debate how bad a Berni Inn is?

    A couple of points-

    • It's a forum to discuss "Knowledge, tips, hints, advice about all things gun, archery, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, etc."

    • I've never known "the Brits" to be hounded out of any forum.

    • Little wonder some US posters are more familiar with firearms than posters from nations that don't have much of a gun culture. Yet there are plenty of anti-gun Americans, so it is not a strictly geographic or national division.

    • The existence of Camp Wordforge has no bearing on the possible existence of Brit Forge.

    • I enjoy reading opinions from our British members on a wide variety of topics, there is no reason they should be limited to one forum.

There are forums for different subjects not for different nationalities.

A camping forum and a British forum are not equivalent.

Using this logic you should be glad gun threads are primarily located in one easily avoidable forum.

You already do, and not just one forum either, there are multiple forums to debate all things British.

Plus I've never heard of any poster wanting to limit all things British to one easily avoidable forum.

I dunno, having a seperate room for one nationality can be a bit divisive. But I also agree that there's very little in the RR that is of any interest to Brits. I really don't care for the Obama vs Hilary stuff and then the god awful American elections that completely dominate the RR. Frankly I don't know how the American contingent can get so wrapped up in these elections, such election 'fever' seldom happens in the UK but it seems to be the norm at every presidential election in the US. I find it boring but that's cross-Atlantic differences for you, I suppose. ;)

Overall, I wouldn't really be opposed to a 'Brit room', I'm just not sure it's a good idea, or whether it will have much traffic in it.

Most Americans don't understand the election fever either, from I understand.

And campforge has other things besides guns in it. But you have to wait for it, or make a non gun thread.

I thought you brits would be into hiking, or camping or stuff like that maybe. ;)

If you wanted more Brit posters, sign up for membership at Britheavy boards.

BBC is probably too international, but I'm sure the Telegraph, Independent, Guardian, et al have forums. That might also draw the right kinda posters for WF.

Or you could always go to chav.com and try recruiting there... ;)

Sounds to me like the ideal solution would be something like this.

It's an addon that allows people to add tags when they create a new thread, and you can choose to view threads that use whatever tag you choose.

Would keep threads in the same place, but also allow you to go to the tags page and click on the relevant tags to you to see if there have been any threads along those lines lately without having to trawl through a whole lot of pages.

Brits wanting independence from Americans? Why I never! [IMG]

But seriously I don't think there are more than a handful of active Brits. EuroForge might be a better sell, and it's harder to make fun of than Britforge because it's just as diverse as America. I'd just be able to derail everything with tea and crumpets.

WF has always been US-heavy. It's just in the nature of the beast. What's worse is that for any newbie, it must look like a board full of screaming, foaming right wing nuts by now with a few moderates and one lonely leftie.

Anyway, I don't think that splitting it up further is a good idea. To the contrary, the management should think about reintegrating some rooms - for example Gold with Green. Gold is dead :(

As for Gunforge, well, it's owner's prerogative as it's one of Elwood's hobbies. At least it gets the dick waving out of the RR. If the system was consequent, tho, it would be a joinable room as the smell of sweat and gun grease seeps out sometimes. Also, you could lock apostle in there and everybody wins :borg:

You don't have the self-restraint to avoid it so you'd want it to be a subscription-only room?

    "New Posts," boy, "New Posts."

That said, even though it's not a matter of restraint, the gun jabber is just part of what wordforge has become. Accidentally wandering into the occasional gun thread is no big deal.

I don't often agree with you but I have to say that I think that is a fantastic idea. If there's no Brit Room then I'd be happy with this as I think it solves part of the problem.

The only joinable forums are the Gray Room, White Room, and Blue Room. White Room and Blue Room for obvious reasons. Never been quite so sure with the Gray Room. Guess it's b/c people wanted to be able to avoid TBBS bullshit completely.

Why should Camp Wordforge be joinable? I don't see how it fits in with those other rooms. Much closer to Press Start or the Iron Room or pretty much any new room that hasn't had to be joinable.

I'll say again, that the best thing to do is to get more Brit posters. That'll not just bring about more Britfocused discussion, but make the board better for everyone.

But that requires more effort than asking the Admins for a new room so.....
