So what was the point of this post? You clearly give more than two shits about this despite having had no imposition. As for your hypothetical, there are millions of teachers in the world and I'm sure you can dig up examples of some who get overzealous. However as someone who worked in teaching for a few years (mostly adult, but worked with lots of school aged groups) I never encountered it first person. There was the occasional student who transitioned while we knew them, and if it came up at all it would be them nervously telling people and asking to be referred to a certain way. If someone forgot, or accidentally used the wrong name or pronoun it was never a big deal in any situation I saw. Hell, I'm an absent minded son of a bitch and have used the wrong name when talking about/to a trans friend in the past. If I realised I corrected myself and everything moved on. The only time I could ever imagine any of the trans people I know seeking help with someone is if it was malicious or willfull bullying, no different than if you insisted on calling anyone by the wrong name to prove some sort of point.
I'm reluctant to apply that term. It's a shitty, dishonest tactic to associate everyone with pedophiles. But that doesn't mean I approve of going at children with these subjects before they're equipped to question it, presenting opinions as mandatory facts from a position of authority.
Nope, I listened to a read-along podcast of his whole fucking book. It's all shit. Every drop of it. He's exactly the kind of fundie Christian Republican swine you hate, but he's really slick about concealing it to people who don't take the time to slog through his soul-suck of a book. But it's the kind of slick you like, so you eat it right up. You really need to lose this delusion that you're too clever to trick. It does you no favors whatsoever.
That's me, putting myself in the position of a parent or a student. Wait, wait. Are you taking the fucktarded position that nobody should ever comment on anything that doesn't directly involve them in the moment?
These are the people ginning the issue up. Full stop. Maybe look around at the company you're keeping.
Then you know that the "people are lobsters" thing has a bit more context and nuance than you are admitting here. It gets a bit more lost in the weeds if you don't permit yourself to be reductive. Don't tell me what I like, skippy. Holy shit!
That doesn't mean there is no legitimate reason to object. "Guilt by association" is a petty tactic of people who want their pet cause to be above question or criticism.
No, I'm confused by the flow of this conversation and trying to figure out what I missed since yourself and Paladin are clearly very angry about this imposition on you that doesn't seem to exist.
There isn't. I mean, the paranoid reactionary can make up any reason to be afraid, but again, I recommend meds.
Yes there is. You just don't happen to agree with it. And you, like some of these activist teachers, need to reacquaint yourself with the fact that it's not your ruling to make.
I’m not going to quote a bunch of posts just to say one thing. So, here goes. Why is it an effort to behave decently to other people? Teachers are humans and the current crop of teachers are not doing anything different than they have in the past - teaching and sometimes that requires real world words and actions and behaviors. Teachers are already in short supply. Adding more arbitrary rules will only make teaching more difficult. This bill is bullshit. Any argument to the contrary is bullshit. And anyone arguing in favor of the bill should be ashamed of themselves. Period. I have spoken.
Rare enough that the University of Wisconsin has a policy pertaining to it? Their existence need not concern me at all, as long as I'm not coerced into accepting or endorsing their chosen self-identity. "Admitted."
There have always been (and should always be!) limits to what teachers may discuss with children. The teacher is there to educate the children, not to expose them to any opinion the teacher might have.
I would argue the opposite. The teacher is there to expose children to new ideas. Imagine how ignorant a child would be if completely insulated their entire lives. I can tell you. Because that was my childhood. I left home without any idea how to live in the real world. If a parent wants their child to remain ignorant, then that is abuse. Plain and simple. And those parent’s should not be allowed to continue abusing their children.
Within acceptable boundaries and per an established lesson plan, yes. The principle is not open-ended.
So, if teacher is non binary and asks the children to refer to them as they/their, the sky will not fall. Is that corrrect?
