I was doing my periodic pass through Lucasarts website last night and got around to looking at some of their online content for this new game, which is due out in March if I'm not mistaken. Since I'm getting my kid and Xbox 360 for X-mas I'll actually be able to get this game when it comes out, although I wish like hell they were doing it for PC. Anyway, here is a link to a couple web documentaries. BSG fans might be interested to know that LT Crashdown is the guy playing Vader's secret apprentice. From what I've seen, this game looks like it might be the best SW game to hit the scene since Jedi Outcast. Takes place between eps 3 and 4, and involves Vader secretly training his own Sith apprentice to use the Force is the most badass methods we've ever seen. Hence the title of the game. Check it out if you're interested, and discuss. The web docs are pretty good.
The PSP/PS2/Wii version though. The web documentaries they have put up are interesting. edit: WHOOSH!
The cover of the novel shows the main character crashing a star destroyer with the force. If they let you get that powerful in the game...
Lucas have announced versions of the game for Playstation 3, XBOX 360, PSP, Playstation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS, and N-Gage.
Bailey, I have a question. How do you like working with the Wiimote? It seems like Nintendo is able to create 1st party games that really make great use of the Wiimote (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3) but other companies are having trouble getting the controls right (Red Steel, Call Of Duty 3). Is it just a matter of learning to work with Nintendo's developer kits? Do you think the Wiimote has more potential than recent offerings have shown us?
I can't really talk about anything related to work and most of that stuff isn't my area anyway so you would be asking the wrong person. Yes.
The game looks awesome - already have it on preorder. I don't think they'll let you get quite as powerful with TK in the game as the cutscene with the Star Destroyer suggests, but the preview clips of hurling large objects into oncoming TIE Fighters suggests we're gonna see some Force-powered smackdowns of a kind we've never really seen in the movies. The novels had major uses of the Force like that, but the most we really got in the movies was Vader tossing boxes at Luke on Cloud City (Dooku's stuff was too slow moving). Maris Brood looks interesting, as well.
Yeah, it looks like one of the premises of this game is that Darth Vader takes a young kid who is strong in the Force, and basically trains him to use it as a freakin' weapon of mass ass-whoopin'. Basically stuff like the force-slams Kenobi and Anakin did to each other and General Greivous, but on an even larger scale.
Bailey, perhaps you could explain why Amazon tells me the release date for this game has slipped to October?
It's a Lucas Arts call when they think it will be the best time to release, for what it is worth their website just still says Summer 2008.
The latest Lucas Arts web doc at http://www.theforceunleashed.com/ has announced the release date as being September 2008. The latest video also focuses heavily on the versions of the game we have been building. Like I said I haven't had much to do with the Wii specific features (worked on the single player campaign which is common to PSP/PS2/Wii) but IGN has just put up a preview of the Wii build you might find interesting. http://wii.ign.com/articles/865/865776p1.html Also I have attached an image from GamePro which goes into detail on the various Wii motion controls.
The physics engines is what is making me drool. I saw that video where they demo breaking different objects with an R2D2 and I got a stiffy. Plus having Stormtroopers holding on for dear life whilst I fuck their shit up looks awesome.
I both dread and eagerly anticipate this game. Eagerly anticipate for all the good reasons mentioned here. Dread because I'll only be able to play it on a 360, and I suck with the XBOX controller. I'm hoping for a PC version, but I won't hold my breath. Plus, with the PC you can mod the hell out of it.
Local multiplayer anyone? Lucas Arts announced that there will be local multiplayer in the form of Jedi Knight duels. Shitty that it isn't being taken online, but such is life. Also, the wii version will sport more levels than the 360 and PS3 versions.
IGN is doing a big focus on The Force Unleashed this week with hands on gameplay impressions of the various versions. Up to now they have done the PSP, PS3, and XBOX360 versions. While I know everyone is most interested in the next-gen versions I just wanted to share this video of the PSP version of the game that we have spent the last few months optimising so that it feels as nice as the PS2 and Wii version. While it's obviously not as beautiful as its next gen cousins I am really proud of how good the PSP version looks and runs. [yt=Force Unleashed PSP]rBVltO_Xq3g[/yt]
Bailey you know you should convince lucasarts to make a spacetrading game. Drools Star wars: Privateer wannabe.
Just played through the X360 demo about 4 times. That is some fucking cool shit. There's a ton of options for fucking with the enemy - lightsaber slash, Force lightning, chuck a crate at them, Force push, combos of the above... It took until the third run through for me to realize I could use the Force to twist the support struts on the hangar outwards so that they were right in the flightpath of the TIE Fighters... The final demo fight against the AT-ST confused me for a bit... kept chucking crates at it (it staggers when hit, so assumed I was on the right track)... only after one death did I realize you needed to whack it and then get in close to pull a button-mash combo that results in you slicing a fucking AT-ST in two with a lightsaber!!!!. Roll on Sept 19th...
I liked just grabbing the bad guys with the Force Grip and chucking them into the bottomless abyss. I don't think you suck out their soul if you do that though.
Well, not sure, but there's text up for a split second after pulling a Force move that suggests this is the case - whack a Stormtrooper with a crate? Crush Bonus. Shove him over the edge of a walkway? "Long Way Down" Bonus. Could be extra XP towards leveling...
