That's true, but I am also saying, quite explicitly, that it may not be correct, that I am choosing to believe this could have happened, and even likely happened. I'm not telling anyone they have to believe the same, not until more data comes in. I also don't make any bones about my dislike of Greg Abbott and the lives he has been utterly destroying, and how vile he is as a human being, that if he fell down a flight of stairs I'd probably laugh at least a little. To put it another way, I do believe this happened, but if it comes in that it didn't, I'll say as much. I've never had issue saying "sorry, fucked up," but right now I have no problems putting it out there as something to chew on until more information comes along.

If you like, we could call this an unconfirmed report. More to come.

Again, I really think this particular incident deserves its own thread. Megathreads can be offputting and harder to jump into when one has to wade through literally years of posts to get to current events. I'm still in favor of splitting all of this discussion off into a new thread.

Also, it's pretty fucked up that the more we learn about what actually happened during this shooting, the more evident it is that the police were actively trying to cover up the true events. I was half joking about the police supporting a gunman going to town on a 90% Hispanic school, but it's becoming even clearer that the cops probably shot a student in the process. At best they were passively complicit, at worst they were actively complicit.

    Seen elsewhere:

The thing about having "guns" as your hobby, is that if my hobby had turned into the number one reason of death for children, I would just find another hobby.

    I don't even call modern-day gun collecting a "hobby". It's more of a psychosis.

And before the child-murdering enablers on this board start squawking, I actually do own a firearm and am very well-trained on their use. My prior career required me to occasionally carry a sidearm, but it's been sitting in a safe for years and I'll be arsed if I even have any ammunition for it. And like many of the sane folks in the law enforcement profession (at least in my country), I am proud to say that I never once had to remove it from its holster.

NERF have a wide enough range if all you want is a diverse set of ways to fire projectiles at stuff. Some of it's even full-auto.

Or X-Shot. I just bought their belt-fed minigun.

If you don't see a problem with deprivation of property without convicting someone of a crime, I we are unlikely to see eye-to-eye on this. But yes, I obviously do see having my stuff taken away as a punishment.

Direct your solutions at the actual source of the problems: violent people. Anything less is a useless symbolic gesture.

I am personal accountability as fuck. If you can't exercise your freedoms without harming others, you should not retain those freedoms. No, that is not a foot in the door for Minority Report Precrime division. People should always be considered innocent until proven guilty, and that includes any action you would take against them or their property.

    :dayton:

Empirical evidence and objective reality disagrees. It is a fact attested to by mountains of evidence that if you remove guns from a society, these things tend not to happen so much.

And yes, it's true that doing so will remove them from "law-abiding" gun owners as well as violent ones. But those groups are not so easy to distinguish, since everyone is law-abiding until they are not. So the choice is very clearly between having school shootings continue or taking gun rights away from people. Those who believe the latter more important (such as you for instance) need to be called out on it and forced to admit it rather than this stupid fucking pretense that the real world doesn't exist being given any credibility.

The #1 reason is the coddling of violent shitbags. If you think violent felons should be rehabilitated and released, if you think it's more important to avoid "stigmatizing the mentality ill :weep: " than it is to prevent them from repeating violent acts, if you don't expect parents to actually pay attention to their crotch goblins and intercede when thr little darlings stray down the path of violent sociopathy, you are asking for more of the same.

But those ideas might cost YOU some concession. Might impact you and yours somehow. Bettet to fixate on the usual scapegoats and pretend the cities with the strongest gun laws also have the most gun violence because the "solutions" ignore the hand pulling the trigger.

This isn't Australia or the UK.The guns aren't going anywhere, and most of us are still not as eager to surrender freedom for the illusion of security. And your empirical evidence must acknowledge the personal crimes a firearm might have prevented if it is to be taken as honest intent.

False choice. You can prevent most of these schools shootings without punishing innocent people.

I believe the first part of that isn’t true. I’m not working this week but have been following the story and haven’t seen anything about another child dying. In fact, one 10-year old girl was released from the hospital yesterday.

I definitely would’ve gotten an email if another kid had died. :(
