This is what is called optics and learning how to not undermine your point. I made 26k for three episodes worth of guest starring is not how you get sympathy from people who are kept away from contract acting jobs by SAG aftra. Saying the show made this many millions and most of that went to some corporate suits who did jack and shit for the production is a much better argument. I don't give a fuck about some of these actors who make 8g per episode for playing pretend. However, if you tell me the episode made millions of dollars, then of course you got ripped the fuck off and you should get more. Phrasing is important, just sayin
How Much Money Does a Hit Movie Really Make (and a Flop Really Lose)? Matt is joined by John Mass, president of Content Partners, to discuss how a movie really reaches profitability, address the common misconceptions of how a movie makes money, and explain how a movie that seems like a hit might still be unprofitable—as well as how a movie that sputters in theaters can still be extremely valuable to a studio. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...-really-make-and/id1612131897?i=1000624819844
Oh, and you want to know who has to be absolutely filthy rich but hides it well? Spielberg. He gets a cut of the ticket sales of the Universal theme parks. So not only is he getting a chunk of money from almost everything connected to his films, but from people just going to the theme parks.
Fake news, real D&D geeks would have burned in the sun like golum the first time he came out of the cave after all that time in his goblin dad's basement. Just kidding. must have failed my charisma check.

If you listen carefully, you can hear @We Are Borg screaming along with all the studio execs. Taylor Swift Gave the Union Everything It Wants Do you know how many people she just fucked over? Not just the studio execs but everybody in the industry who wants to hire union crew going forward. In addition to throwing around something like $60+ million in bonuses after this tour, but by saying, "Whatever the union wants, let them have it" means they're going to want to work for her more than anybody else. "Yeah, sure, it's Marty's last movie, but Tay-Tay is paying the big bucks, no questions asked." Sure, others will be able to match those dollar amounts. However, they weren't one of the first to agree to give the union what they wanted. She was, and that's going to make working for her very appealing.

One of these days I am going to find out TS eats babies and I am probably going to just shrug it off because what is a couple of babies when she seems to be doing some decent things?
Ummmm…. So should this go here, the List thread, or the Groomers thread? Like… ummm… THAT’s what first came to mind (or worse you thought about it!) to try and explain to studio heads how actors not having control of their likeness image and voice is bad? Virtually gangbanging their daughters?!?!?
Everybody forgets that he tied Madonna to a chair for hours because he thought she was cheating on him. Never been a fan of him.
The sentiment is 100% correct, but these attempts to put hard numbers on the demands are either naive or misleading (probably a combination of both) The math the studios are doing isn't just based around only the writers, it's the knock ons in the standards it will set for other departments.
And here we come to the Great Example of the Myth of American Capitalism Writ Large. What have we Americans been told since probably the 1930s? That when Henry Ford began offering his employees $5/day, not only did he strike a blow for the working man by offering some of the highest wages in the industry, he also increased the number of customers because now the people who built his cars could also afford to buy them. Goddamn, that's the shit that should give every American some pink steel and make companies just want to shower their employees with all kinds of cash to ensure they don't run out of customers. Funny how that doesn't seem to be happening. Of course, when you dig into the history of that whole $5/day thing, you quickly discover that it's a goddamned crock of shit (as with many other things we're taught about American history). For starters, only employees who were willing to have Ford sociologists come in and inspect their homes to ensure that they were living "morally" (ie no booze, the wife didn't work outside the home, and you weren't "living in sin") could qualify for that rate of pay, which wasn't an hourly wage increase, but a "profit-sharing program" that paid out quarterly if certain production goals were met. Less than 50% of Ford's employees qualified for it, and not only was it killed the moment there was an economic downturn, but just a couple of years after that, Ford was paying the lowest rates in the industry. So, naturally, you'd think that corporations would be more than happy to raise the wages of their workers since that would mean they'd have more customers.
All interesting, but also backs up that just trying to simplistically put hard numbers on it doesn't work.
Yet that is precisely what the studios are doing when they say they can't offer more pay than they already are. And even if it leads to studio execs having to take a cut in pay for all rank and file workers to get a decent wage, that cut in pay will not significantly impact the lives of the execs. They won't have to think about not going to a doctor because even with insurance they can't afford the expense, yet that is what the majority of Americans do. So, um, fuck the execs.
