Y'know, I can't believe this just now occurred to me, but they need to go ahead and scrap whatever Tron 3 is about, and make it about Fran Drescher going into the grid to kill the screenwriting AI. But have all the studio heads be CG re-creations of David Warner. Y'know, let them be zombies for irony.
Deal! WGA, AMPTP Reach Historic Contract Agreement to End 146-Day Writers Strike: ‘This Deal is Exceptional’
Yay, go them! I hope the talent took the money from the overpaid corporate waste that leaches off their work. Now if only we could do that for the rest of the world things would look a lot better. Down with the Romnifellers and Pelosis. Oh, and for the boy and uncle Jenee fucker, that means down with your hero Trump too. Libertarian my ass.
Good news it would seem. Let's hope the deal really is a good one. Hopefully SAG/AFTRA will be able to get a deal soon and hopefully it will be a meaningful one.
I'm both happy for the WGA and worker's rights and thrilled I might some day get to see Severance season 2 now.
Drew Carey (a minority owner of the Sounders and who got it into our ownership agreement that every 5 years we get to vote to retain our GM and established the Alliance Council [all Season Ticket Holders vote in representatives that the Club has to meet with monthly and answer questions from] and has personally bought me two beers at Fuel before Sounders matches) has quietly spent >$90k on his open tab for striking workers: https://x.com/drewfromtv/status/1706848373788279049 Hell of a guy.
And in case I wasn’t clear serious props to Drew Cary. He isn’t a Tom Cruise. He’s as much of a Joe actor as there is. I’m guessing he has invested well but I don’t imagine $100k is just pocket change for him. So serious respect and where are other actual big name actors?
Like Shooter said, Drew Carey is rich AF. Also an interesting case, in that he's more of the classical style of Libertarian, than the right wing in disguise that makes up many of them nowadays. Less FYGM, and Libertarian because he genuinely believes it makes for the best end outcomes.
In regards to other actors/writers though, Seth MacFarlane has earned a lot of goodwill this year, having donated a few million dollars to support those affected by the strikes.
Okay, good point. I don’t watch daytime TV so was thinking he was just coasting on Drew Carey Show residuals. That said, lots of other folks who could have set up open tabs and didn’t so I still give him props.
You should read up on his life right after he left the service. Dude had it pretty rough, nearly committed suicide on more than one occassion.
People like him are why I say good people with money and fame are not going to try to be president. They do good where they can. John Stewart should run for president with Stephen Colbert as VP.
He also owns part of several improv shows, including Whose Line Is It Anyway which has run on and off for 25 years. Between that and the Drew Carey show he made Forbes list of top entertainment earners in 1998 at $45 million. That's just one year, 25 years ago. His net worth is around $150-170 million. So yeah, that was pocket change for him. Still give him props for doing so, he didn't have to, but Carey would barely notice $90K.
Looks like they got improvements on the streaming side too. Better minimum pay, better residuals, confidential statistics.
Breaking Down What the Writers Guild Won It's a three-year deal, so don't get too cozy. Going to be really interesting to see what happens when the streaming services have to be more transparent about their numbers.
