SAF-AFTRA strike may be coming to a close. https://www.darkhorizons.com/amptp-offers-historic-package-to-sag-aftra/
Studios Keep Actors' Strike Going by Pushing a Truly Horrifying AI Deal I'm reminded of an incident during the Civil War where Lincoln saw a telegram from Grant to Sherman, where Grant said that he was worried Lincoln would order him to abandon his siege of a Confederate city. This was Lincoln's response:
I like how they're not even the least bit mask-on about it.; "You're things, and we own you. What? What? Why are you mad? ".
And, Sag-Aftra strike seems to be over. They got pretty much everything they wanted, including the AI protections the studios didn't want to bend on. https://www.darkhorizons.com/tentative-deal-reached-to-end-actors-strike/
Last thing I want to see is my eye candy digitally produced. I want them digitally enhanced and sugically modified.

There's a difference between protecting your livelihood and being a Luddite. The fact is that jobs that used to be done by dozens of people can now be done just as well by a handful or even one. That's been called "progress", even when it isn't, really. Movie sets aren't any different. There simply isn't any way to prevent film makers from doing more with less as technology advances. The best outcome I can see is making sure that the fewer people who have jobs will be able to making a decent living from them.
This episode of The Town podcast has an interview with Justine Bateman about the potential SAG-AFTRA contract. She raises a number of interesting points, but the really big one that she mentions is this: There's nothing in the agreement that prevents a background actor from being forced to sign a contract like this if they want to be in the movie: You agree to have your likeness digitally scanned and that we can use that likeness in this or other projects as we see fit so long as we compensate you <current day rate for background actors>. Okay, that makes some sense. After all, if they need to reshoot a scene with a lot of background actors, it's cheaper, easier, and faster to use AI-generated actors. And something like that could make or break a movie, depending upon the size of the budget. But think about this: A number of people who became big stars got their start as background actors. And I can't think of who it was, but at least one actor has had a film where they were an extra come out at roughly the same time as the film that was their big, breakout role. Purely a chance thing, of course. But we know how quick studios are to repackage a movie poster, etc. when somebody rockets to fame, and people can't get enough of them. So the studio grabs every film they've been in, no matter how small the role, and slaps the actor's image and name all over it. Now, imagine if they could create whole movies with the digitized actor. Do I think they would do this, regardless of if it damaged that actor's career or not?

Jesus, UA is all over the place with his beloved cartoons. Rick punches some women, it's a woke conspiracy. Brak and Frylock are broke, fuck 'em. Guess they should have done some assaults, huh?
