Holy shit, George Carlin was right! Swimming in an open sewer as a kid really DID inoculate him against polio!
The "eat a pound of dirt before you die" thing isn't just an old wives' tale. We don't challenge our immune systems enough in early life these days - often that's a good thing, but like the polio example it can lead us to overly rely on antibiotics to do the work our own immune systems could if they'd worked out more in our youth. Which is cool until the bugs evolve antibiotic resistance. I'd laugh at the anti-evolution folks, but laughing sets off this weird cough I've had lately...
Yes. Our craziness with cleanliness is hurting us. Let the kids play in the mud and dirt. Let them get dirty as hell. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
If you have the truth on your side, why should you care about lawyers trying to shut you up? She certainly can't be afraid - Trump isn't a Kennedy or Clinton after all! Here's you a few posts ago talking about JFK's lovers: "Funny you use that example, one of his lovers finally wrote a book two fucking years ago. The specter of fear can keep people quiet a long fucking time."
"eat a pound of dirt before you die?" Hold on now - If I know my death is imminent how is eating a pound of dirt going to save my life?
Thanks. I think I remember when Olivia Walton was stricken with Polio. That was a rough Easter on Walton Mountain.
I don't play video games. However I been have to a portion of the actual Oregon Trail in Idaho which is pretty cool!
I’ve made trip from Idaho to Washington several times. The highways run along much the same path. Do it in winter and it’s not an easy trip by car when the wind is howling and temperatures are in the single digits. The people who made that trip on foot and on wagons must’ve have been a brave and tough bunch.
You'd think that would be huge news. I saw it on a few outlets, but it's not getting nearly the play it should. Even if I disagree with him on most of his policies, the man did the right thing and they're threatening his life for it.
Saw that. It shows the nature of the conservative movement today. They know themselves that they have too many violent people in their ranks, and aren't even afraid to admit it. I used to think I was conservative -- and I probably am, by French standards -- until I found out what modern American conservatives stand for. And realized that I disagree with the conservatives, very strongly, on a large number of points.
I will respectfully refrain from making a joke concerning Garamet being on the original Oregon Trail.
I'm always amused by the steps we take to sterilise bottles, dummies/pacifiers, etc, only for babies to crawl off and put random bits of their environment into their mouths.
I heard about a study between mothers who clean pacifiers that were dropped on the floor by rinsing them off before giving them back to a baby, and mothers who "clean" them by sticking them into their own mouths before just jamming them back into the baby's mouth. It turns out the latter group had babies with stronger immune systems and mothers with more hairballs.
