CRT did not destroy the dems. Letting virginian trumpistas like @Federal Farmer vote destroyed the dem party.

This is democracy. When your people are mostly idiots who believe in imaginary fiction written over 2000 years ago over the truth that america is racist then this is what you get.

This is why democracy is a complete failure when the majority of your voters believe in imaginary things as fact.

I was thinking of making a seal for the Republicans using something from "Orange is the New Black," but inspiration is failing me.

Regardless of the semantics of critical race theory, viewed as a proxy for how the Left likes to nauseate Americans with woke culture war shit generally, we can see why average people would be turned off. And yes, this is related to a failure of Dems to control the narrative and message properly.

Meanwhile, the substantive things that Dems could be doing in government haven't materialized. More competent government than the Trump years? Nope, see Afghanistan. Material gains for working families? Nope, see the continued gridlock over the infrastructure bills.

At this rate, we're gonna have the GOP back in control of Congress after '22, and Trump back in the White House after '24. This country is truly fucked.

Child poverty reduced by sending cash money to families with kids. At least that's a good thing.

They don't, though. It's the right always making an issue out of culture war shit. The left wasn't talking about where trans people were shitting until the right insisted on making it a culture war issue. The left wasn't talking about letting gay people adopt kids until the right insisted on making it a culture war issue. The left wasn't talking about trans kids playing on the gender-segregated sports team of their choice until the right insisted on making it a culture war issue. The left wasn't talking about letting teachers acknowledge unpleasant truths about historical events involving race until the right insisted on making it a culture war issue.

Tomorrow the right might decide to create a culture war issue out of the fact that you're not allowed to castrate suspected pedophiles in the middle of the street. Today the left takes for granted the idea that we're not supposed to castrate anyone in the middle of the street, but tomorrow if Republicans start screaming about it, Democrats will respond by saying "we don't castrate anyone in the middle of the street, stop being creepy assholes," and the Republicans will scream about how Democrats are the pro-pedo party and how the Democrats won't stop nauseating Americans with their woke pedo-protecting agenda. And apparently you'll buy into that narrative without question.

This doesn't make a lot of sense, because obviously it's Progressives who want to move the ball forward on racial and gender issues. They assume they're on the right side of history, even as it's still being written. Putting natal boys on girl's sports teams, insisting that we all learn a myriad of new pronouns, agonizing over racial issues in US history -- whether or not you agree with these trends, it's hard to claim that it was conservatives who instigated them. Conservatives react to them, often overreact with a pile of derp, but still.

I admire them for doing what works to win elections and effect change in government. Maybe Dems should try it.

It's clear by the percentage of voters saying the country is on the wrong track that the Democratic Party has gone off the deep end, sacrificing electability for ideology.

They're either going to have to take a big step back towards the center, or they're going to face a national shellacking next year.

The radicals will double down on screaming "white supremacy" which is not a winning formula, so I say have at it. The moderates are going to have to defend it or distance themselves from it.

Either way, the more extreme aspects of the Biden agenda are likely foreclosed. The radicals won't get the message, but you can bet your ass the moderates did.

None of that is true. The average Dems wasn't. The left wing of the party absolutely was, loudly, and quite frankly quite abusively to anyone who had even a hair's breath between their view and their current dogma. I've been called a homophobe b/c I didn't think Kamala Harris was "absolute trash" b/c while AG of CA she inherited a case that fought against state sponsored sex change operations for trans prisoners - despite the fact that the state doctors had signed off on hormone therapy, counselling, and allowed them to be imprisoned in the facility of their choice. I've seen feminists stating unironically that no one should ever read a novel by a white cisgender man ever again. That shutting down child sex trafficking websites was morally wrong. That if you don't like rap music you must be a racist. That it was better for Trump to win than Biden b/c that led more quickly to the overthrow of the entire system. People getting attacked for simply responding to the statement that all men were rapists.

Maybe you don't know these people but I certainly know many.

The far left is just as consumed by ideology and dogma as the far right. The difference is the far left is not the majority of the Dem party. The far right has become the majority of the GOP.

Absolutely. The best leaders in the US have been those with a clear moral vision to help people, and who were willing to do whatever it took to make sure that their side won so those changes could be made. Lincoln likely cheated in the GOP nominating convention. He's considered by every poll in the last 30 years by historians to be the greatest President of all time. FDR is #3/4 in most of those polls. He fought tooth and nail and was willing to stack the Supreme Court.

McConnell is one of the most accomplished, powerful, and absolutely immoral congressional leaders of all time. You don't beat guys like him by playing nice.

Most of them are hyper dems. They are Demmier than thou. All far left progressives. Several are big donors, two were election workers.

One was an anarchist though, and yeah, that one doesn't really count. And one was so far left that all his Dems friends cut off contact with him because he had a complete meltdown because Biden won. He was the guy that preferred Trump so it would all come crashing down sooner - despite the fact that would cause huge amounts of death.

I think it's fair to summarize that the two-party system is failing America precisely because it's the extremists who control both parties. Moderates and centrists have little power. At the root of this problem is the fact that average Americans are disengaged from grassroots political processes and don't vote, especially in primaries and in local races.

There is a bit of difference in the sides here. Yes, there are the rabid atheists, feminists, trans people, gays, and liberals. I have agreed they end up being as bad as the rabid right. But they are not in charge or even close in the dem party. The radical right wing religious racists are in charge on the right. If Bernie is the worst the left has, he is not Trump. Yes, he has his direction, but he works with others to the point he gives up his own goals. He may speak out on things, but in the end he folds to get something and compromises.

On the other side of the coin you have no compromise and you have a group of candidates that succumbs to the most radical of racists rather than the middle ground of Joe Biden. To claim the dems are radical and cancelling in their beliefs shows you are a fucking liar as the dems swing towards moderation in the end. Just mention moderation and compromise with a republican idea promoted by a dem and you will have shouts for your death by your own party. See Liz Cheney for example. The left wants to cancel AOC, not let her have any control. The progressives are enemies of the dem party who hate them, and yet you claim they have power.

You are being intellectually dishonest in the face of reality.

I already stated that the far right is the majority in the GOP and the far left is not the majority in the Democratic party.

And I voted for Bernie in both the last two elections in the primaries and would have happily done so if he had won the nomination. But then, Bernie doesn't fight these culture wars. He's after systemic socioeconomic change. A lot of people on the left don't believe that will help minorities. I tend to think it will.

AOC is the left. So there are definitely moderate Dems that would do so - and she is more than happy to help primary them. It's intellectually dishonest to say that Progressives are fine with moderates as well. The progressive wing wants to be in charge in the Democratic Party the same way the Trumpers are in the Republican party. That means getting seated Dems out of office. For some reason they don't like that.

I agree with a lot of what Progressives believe, but I don't believe in attacking moderates that have to win elections, and I believe similar to Obama that a lot of this far left racial and cultural behavior loses elections.

I don't think Youngkin wins if the Dems don't give him 'safety in the schools' and CRT to run on. They did - and if we are going to pursue those policies, we absolutely have to message better and convince, not call everyone who disagrees with those POV 'trash' or some other slur. It's absolutely a loser proposition, and it snatches defeat out of the hands of victory routinely. Yes, progressive policies win in progressive districts. But large swathes of the country aren't.

The most amazing thing is that the Progressives in VA did a fantastic job getting their policies enacted. At least something on almost every issue, and huge wins in min wage, healthcare, gun control, and voting rights.

Their base still didn't show up. Lies about CRT and trans bathrooms did energize the right.

If you're talking about progressives that have little to no say within the party and often outright hate the Democrats more than they hate the Republicans, maybe. If you're talking about mainstream Democrats, no. Obama publicly came out (heh) against gay marriage in 2008, then let the supreme court rule in favour of it.
Are you high, or did you get bitten by a radioactive Lanzman? :chris:

Trump was by far the most extreme Republican presidential nominee in 2016 and 2020, he won the nomination both times handily. By contrast, the Dems nominated middle of the road candidates that nobody was excited about both times.

Biden was by far the most centrist candidate, though. Even by those standards he's still a massive disappointment, having trouble delivering basic uncontroversial stuff like increased infrastructure spending. How is that not a triumph of centrism over extremism?

Again, this is my point. Clinton lost and Biden is a dud. The centrists have no influence.

Trump, conversely, got to appoint three SCOTUS justices, shake up our foreign policy, move the US economy further in the direction of corporate oligarchy, and a great many things that only a third of Americans (at best) want.
