Very deep trouble? A low level felony is not murder. Sure, he is probably going to be found guilty, but he will probably get community service, a huge fine, and if there is any jail time he will probably be allowed to do most of it at home. This is not a violent offender so at the worst he will be in jail and not prison. Yes, I understand 16 counts seems bad, but in the end multiple charges associated with the same crime are served concurrently rather than consecutively.

They are not going to hang him simply because racists want a lynching for filing a false police report. They have real criminals to deal with.

Given the guy still has friends backing him I would imagine when he gets out he will be employed somewhere down the line where his name is not on any productions.

It was much more than that. The case brought a great deal of public scrutiny and even condemnations of the Chicago police before the facts all emerged.

And it sounds to me like the officials in Chicago were pretty ticked off about it. I don't think a slap on the wrist is going to fly.

And, again, there is still the matter of the federal charges that may be brought against him.
Astonishing, given that he's lied to their faces and humiliated those of them who offered public support.
    We'll see.

The charges he faces carry 1-3 years of prison time. When you factor in the reality that corrections really tries hard to push non-violent criminals out the door he probably would not do half of it in jail. If he pleas out it is for a deal anyway, and it would be extremely strange for them to make him serve consecutive sentences. Could you imagine the public relations nightmare if they tried to pull that shit on what is really one instance of him doing it?

We will see what they do, but my thought is they go after money over jail time. The only people really offended by it all are the racists anyway. You guys seem to take this way to personally.

so...the other minorities who agree that Smollett is a self centered lying shit-bag and should do time are racists too? Hmmm......how does that work? Are they taking it personally? If I were black or gay I certainly would want to put his ass under the jail for a good long time. If he has a trial he better hope he doesn't get a lot of them on the jury.

I give that a two. We have seen it before, and it was a sad attempt to pretend all of wordforge was offended by the whole Smollett incident. Can't you find a fat drag queen picture to photoshop or something?

Offended by what? By whom? A lying cowardly Blue Falcon got caught and will very likely get what's coming to him. The matter of degree for his punishment has yet to be determined. Why would I be offended? Many on the left showed their true gullible colors (as expected) over the Smollett incident and that certainly would never offend me. Suffice it to say I am totally missing your point here.

I think he'll get at least as much time as Manafort did. Maybe if he shows up for his sentencing in a wheelchair he'll get time served.

The charges only carry 3 years unless they go consecutive which is really rare. I know some people think he is going to be hammered, but I have a feeling they are all going to make a deal for no jail time. You have to remember he is obviously a whiny bitch looking for a payday, and he has enough clout to get a nasty lawyer. My bet is they take a fine and some community service and probation and are done with it. If they actually jail him he is extra hassle for being a star and this being big news. Money talks much louder than a bunch of racist jerkoffs who are way too offended by the whole incident. Sure what he did is wrong, but he really only hurt himself in the end.

You and racist forge were doing a victory dance like you won the super bowl. It is not like they got OJ convicted. I am not sure why you all took it so personally since none of you support trump according to your claims. Smollett may be a dick, but you all were a bunch of nasty little racists about it all, and it was not a good look. It is sort of like beating up a retarded toddler. No matter how justified you may be, you are still beating up a retarded toddler. Or think about it in a way you can comprehend. It is like getting happy over trump getting caught. Yes, when he goes down we are all going to dance around and have some fun, but you are not going to see us in a very good light.

I can pretty much guarantee that at least 90% of the "victory dance" wasn't because Smollett got caught per se. It was because the people here who proclaimed Smollett had to be telling the truth, and that anyone suggesting otherwise was a racist were proven wrong. It's juvenile, but not racist.

Yeah....what MAOHS said. But Tererun just can't wrap her pea brain around the fact that just because your bullshit detector is working as advertised (when you hear a bullshit story) and the bullshitter happens to be black it doesn't make you a racist! Nobody is under any moral obligation to believe somebody just because they are black....or white...or gay...or muslim...or whatever they are. Two plus three will never equal seven no matter who proclaims it. Ya feel me?

My guess: The state is right about what happened (he's a liar who faked it all) but they are not confident that a trial will result in a conviction due to some sort of legal / procedural issue.

My stance: I believe in rule of law. The charges are dropped. He's therefore to be treated as not guilty. Time to move on.

The state dropped everything. If they thought something happened, but couldn't get a heavy conviction, they might have offered a deferred prosecution, community service or just lowered the charges. No, they dropped EVERYTHING. Mr. Smollett is off the hook, but there is more to this story.

"After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollet's volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case."

    https://abc7chicago.com/jussie-smollett-making-emergency-court-appearance-tuesday/5218125/

So he's not not guilty but because he did community service and essentially paid a $10,000 fine (his bond) they dropped the charges.

more to the story perhaps but at least considering this as a stand-alone incident he is innocent. Now he is free to counter-sue anyone who besmirched his reputation. Well played Jussie!

Chicago police union wants federal investigation into Kim Foxx’s handling of Jussie Smollett case

    https://wgntv.com/2019/03/19/chicag...o-kim-foxxs-handling-of-jussie-smollett-case/

Foxx did recuse herself so why is she back involved with the case?

There may be some Chicago style corruption involved in this.

And really I think this is a bad move for Smollett. The Feds don't fuck around but they may have let the state deal with him but now the state has punted this may anger the Feds into making sure they go after Smollett.
