But the only thing stronger than Trump's vanity is his need for self-preservation. I figure there's at least a 25% chance his lawyers try something like "he's too old and weak to stand trial."

Eh, let's not get too proud here. Trump, after all, did go to an elite military school and an Ivy League university. I don't think that either of us would claim Trump was some kind of genius. The same could well be true of Hunter. That's just one of the reasons why I think that we should prevent family members from running for the same political office that a relative of theirs had.
