    Ooooh....

The only thing that niggles just a bit is wondering how big the fallout will be for the little people dependent on those businesses.

How many people does Trump Org employ in service or menial roles whose living is dependent on a company whose crimes they had no say in?

That seems like wishful thinking, not legal analysis. It's totally routine for one co-defendant to pay for another's defense as long as their interests are aligned.

But if you know the government has got you dead to rights, and your only hope to avoid life in a Federal-pound-me-in-the-ass-prison is by copping a plea, what then?

Given it seems they also have the Trump Org dead to rights, seems like his best bet is to put up a united front. Outside of testifying against Trump himself, hard to imagine any sort of scenario where the Feds would even be willing to cut a deal. Doubly so if the Org goes bankrupt from defaulting on its upcoming due loans before the trial is complete (see Nova's thread).

If the Feds do offer a deal, he'd be crazy not to take it, but it seems a bit circular to reason that that would require the Org not to pay his legal fees before such a deal was offered and accepted.

You don’t think that if he turned states evidence that the Trump Org wouldn’t send him a bill for his defense prior to flipping? The lawyers have to know that the odds of them getting paid are probably pretty slim anyway.

He also openly bragged about bribing every other person on the stage at the Republican primary debates. Yet, people still voted for him. People are stupid.

That would depend on the terms of the indemnity and defense clauses of his employment contract, which neither of us have access to. I don't think "we'll bill you retroactively if you flip in a joint defense case" is remotely standard though.

Since he’s under threat of the other party in the contract testifying against him and sending him to prison.

And he's out on bail. $250 million bail bond, secured by a $5M cash payment. That's the kind of cash these fuckers can afford to splash just to stay out of jail until trial (he intends to plead not guilty).

Bail was set that high because he's an extreme flight risk. If I had that sort of money, I'd put down $5M out of $250M in a fucking heartbeat and STILL have £245M left to flee the country - I don't think it'd take THAT much. Look for this cunt to do a runner ASAP.

It's pretty much standard operating procedure as part of the bonding process to surrender one's passport. Unless you want to do a Carlos Ghosn and hire someone to sneak you out of the country in a piano case flight which seems fairly unlikely. A lot of these mega rich types go into denial about how much trouble they're really in. He may believe, like Trump, that he can just buy or bullshit his way out of this. We'll see. :corn:

If our "friends" in the UAE want to protect him/themselves they can easily afford to fly him out on a private jet made of diamonds and hide him away in some isolated mansion for the rest of his life. Or jus dispose of his corpse quietly like he's an Emirati princess that tried showing a little independence.

These are our "friends," by the way. :async:

Oh. Oh, well. If that's all it takes, why bother setting a high bail in the first place? I mean, a guy with a billion in the bank couldn't possibly find a way to travel without a passport, even if they'd taken a quarter of his wealth (which they haven't, they've taken $5M), could he?

I'd impound any private aircraft this fucker owns and lock down any airstrip he goes within a mile of.

He has 3 sureters who also lose $250 million if he flees. Theory being he’s less likely to screw over the people he cares about. Though I think I heard one is his ex-wife (or maybe that was just an example), so maybe he will flee anyway.
