    But chicago!

This may be one of the reasons.

When I lived in NY it was a chore to legally buy an assault rifle and a handgun. Getting a shotgun or hunting rifle was not very hard, but I had to find a gun show to buy an assault rifle. To buy a pistol I had to go to the town and police to get a permit, and I would have had to get references, pay the licensing fees, and pay for the thing. Then there was the approval time, and even when I was done I had to go even further for a carry license. I could not have the pistol with me loaded and ready in the car without a carry license. The bullets had to be locked in the trunk, and the pistol had to be unloaded somewhere else. If not I am going to jail if I get pulled over.

I go down south and I could buy a pistol anywhere and Walmart had assault rifles. It is cheap, quick, and easy. It becomes so much easier to pick up a gun and shoot someone. Even if I went to chicago and wanted to illegally murder someone with an illegal gun I would have to find a criminal to sell to me. It may be one thing to buy an illegal gun if you are with criminals who know you. It is another thing to find a dealer in a place where no one knows you, and buy your gun. However, if you can go to a pawn shop, gun store, or even some yahoo to get your gun to kill someone, and there are tons of them around you can get them easy.

Cue @Uncle Albert and @Lanzman trying to tell us the thugs (code word for blacks and browns) are the actual problem because white nationalists do not do violence with guns.

seems a little childish to ask that question when the answer has been out there for at least 30 years...
Add that this also includes firearms that can be modified by the owner to selective fire. As I understand it, not a difficult task for someone with elementary gunsmithing skills.

It is really sad but the guntard missed where I did actually categorize the guns, which would have clearly defined what I was talking about to anyone who had a dayton level of reading comprehension, but since he knows I was right, and cannot make a point, he had to go with the attempt to derail into the definition game rather that attempt to rebutt the obvious and real reason why murder rates are really high in places that are extremely lax in gun restrictions.

umm... given that I first found this out when the FN FAL was still the standard small arm of NATO (and legal for civilian ownership here-which is why it isn't any more), obviously.

this really is nowhere near the gotcha you'd hoped.

Now we know why Nebraska only has 15 people.
    They were all killed.
By UA? I can prove nothing.
It's all a fog of rumor.
    Must investigate.

This gets back to why it’s always safer to live in a city versus a rural area. In the city you are one of thousands and less likely to have run-ins with crime. There’s more police presence, more lighting, less wanton gun brandishing.

FBI data has shown this for ages - the South has the highest per capita homicide rate. The NE has by far the lowest.

South 38.3% of the population, 48.7% of the murder and nonnegligient manslaughter.

NE, 17.1% of the population, 11.2% of the murder and nonnegligient manslaughter.

This data from 2019, the last time they formated the data by region. It had been done that way for decades prior. Guess the Trump admin wanted to obfuscate that.
    https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/topic-pages/tables/table-3

Indeed, violent crime is higher in the South across all categories.

Must be how religious the bible belt is.

Or in this case familarity breeds contempt.

But what would you know about the South. That's not where you live. You live in a suburb of DC in the 2nd biggest tech corridor in the US. There's more datacenters there than farms now. :D

I spent the first quarter century of my life in the Piedmont state, just south of Asheville. You're right though, lots of carpetbaggers where I live.

Point of order: Folks that want everyone disarmed would eventually want the police largely disarmed as well. Most cops in the UK don't carry firearms, and they seem to do okay. :async:

it's amazing, one can see the moment you stopped reading the post and reacted.

otherwise you would've noticed this in the very same line of text. the same sentence, even...

(and legal for civilian ownership here-which is why it isn't any more)

need it simplified further? let me try in your native Pakled.

'not army mans used to buy army type gun okay. army gun easy to mod make shoot too fast. somebody did. not army mans no more okay buy army gun'

and once more for the record, I'm pretty okay with our gun laws here. They could be more specific about a fe wthings, but generally work.

I was kinda taken aback when I found out cadet corps no longer get all the firearms exposure we did when I was young.

Also, yeah, TOronto cops need to be demilitarized and redesigned to better serve and protect...

I can live with that tradeoff, especially when I see that so many modern mass shooters are scrawny little autists that have no chance in a fair fight with a healthy adult.
