Alright, I am getting to the point where I need a FIRM COUNT on people who are COMMITTED to playing in the game. Also, I need to know from you whether you want guidelines/parameters, or if I should just let you make whatever the hell you want (within reason). The former is easier for me, the latter is more fun for you. Also, my brother has expressed interest in joining in, and unless anyone has any serious objections, I will be including him. At the moment we're aiming for Saturday afternoons as our game time.
A) I'm in. B) We need setting info, etc. C) We also need to be thinking of names for our forum, as I heavily suspect Tamar will give us one.
Well, you suggested 'Holoforge' or 'the holodeck', but I think Chuck is actually going to make a new dedicated board just for gaming, because there's alot of add-on software that would make gaming alot easier. As for setting, we'll start in your standard medieval D&D high-fantasy setting. I tend to veer towards the high-magic, but you'll all be first level so that's not particularly relevant to you. If you want to be asian/norse/arab/whatever, let me know and I'll work your backround into the story. I'm flexible and awesome that way. If you want anything you think is unusual, ASK first. I'm willing to work with ideas, but I don't like someone saying 'this is what I have deal with it.' If you want psionics, we'll need to chat in order for me to make sure you can handle that, as it SERIOUSLY breaks the game. If we have no psionicist players psionics will likely not be a part of the campaign.
Okay, broad strokes. This will be a mighty battle against ultimate evil across time, space, and metareality. Any characters CAN be a part of this, but if you pick really insane characters it will be harder on me and I will like you less.
Sounds good, Katy. I just need to hear from people the kinds of characters/classes/roles they want to play. If I get 6 mysterious spellcasters or 5 brawling fighters and one thief, it's going to require some tweaking.
Erm, ok... I thought this was gonna be one of those things where you can come on the message board once a day, or when you are available, post what you wanna do, and away ya go. Nothing like having to meet on Saturday mornings or any of that. If it is standard medieval D&D high-fantasy, then I'd like to try it, but Saturday mornings are usually pretty busy for me. Not all the time, but enough that it will probably interrupt the game. I'll probably have to bow out then.
If I didn't already have a campaign on Saturdays, I'd give this a try. I'd use my dwarf druid I used on my first campaign last semester... I may join the forum just to read what y'all do.
Alright, I laid these out for Lethe last night, but here's my house rules and general rules for gaming: 1. Everyone gets maximum hit points at first level, because you're heroic. 2. You start with languages equal to your native language plus language bonus. You can spend skill points on more. 3. When the game starts, you are there to play, not to shoot the breeze. Chat is chat, and its hard enough to get 6 or 8 people in a chatroom at the same time. 4. If I'm wrong about a FACT, correct me. If I make an OPINION or JUDGEMENT you don't agree with or doesn't seem fair, I'm the DM and that's why you're having me run a game for you. I won't kill you for fun, but I might break your leg. Next adventure, you might find 5000 diamonds inside a bag. It all pans out. 5. Problems with gameplay should be taken up with me BETWEEN sessions. I have a PM box, and email account, and AIM, and I'm not doing a good job as a DM unless you're having fun. 6. You get out what you put in. If you want to do stuff on the side or roll out things between sessions, I'm all for that, but you need to put in the effort. 7. If you 'meant to' have your character do something or 'should have' had something, you probably should've thought about it. Time in the game WILL pass even if you aren't ready. This keeps us from taking an hour deciding who will open the door. 8. If you've got a weird race, class, or skill that I havn't heard of, you're the expert. I'll try and KNOW what you're doing, but its your job to make sure you aren't breaking rules. 9. Don't be a dick. Don't cheat, don't walk all over people, or tell them their idea is stupid. It may get them killed, but its their idea. 10. HAVE FUN, GODDAMMIT! arty: BTW, if there's a D&D book you need or want, or would be relevant to the class and race you're playing, I have it. I've *AHEM* acquired about 25 gigs of books, and I can send them via email or through AIM.
I would really like to play, but the commitment thing is too much for me. Let me know when the GM isn't such a hardass.
Okay, because people are starting to make characters, I want you to host yours here: www.3edb.com You have to register, and then you can just keep your character sheet on file there, and send me links. Its handy, it hosts the data externally so it can't be lost, and it is easily accessible to both of us. You will PM me your character sheet if you're concerned about other people seeing your stuff.
I wish I could commit and play. New baby and unreliable internet make it difficult. All I would have to do is reroll my Psionic Fighter from the last game I played, he kicked ass. Someday....
Alright, as a something of a hard deadline, I'm saying that if you want in, I need a character concept and sheet by February 15th. So far I've got four, but its quite a sausage-fest. I'm not putting in a party-cap yet, but if it gets too big I will, so FCFS. Ladies?
Early Saturday afternoons (my time) should work. Hopefully. If I miss a day or am late, well, I've taken baba's advice and gone with the Monk class, which doesn't look like it has any Must!Have! abilities, so hopefully you shouldn't miss me too much. About how long are we figuring these sessions would go? One hour? Two? Five? [action=NAHTMMM]puts away his wombat-wielding Hungarian emu rider [/action] OK, fair enough.
Sunday should be good for me too... as long as it is in the afternoon. I'll probably be a female elf ranger... pending examination of my players handbook which i should be able to get a hold of tomorrow. Edit: just to clarify, Saturday works too, but if Sunday works better for people that's fine too...
Okay, this party is definitely coming up short on 'nuke' ability. A cleric, druid, or a wizard would not go amiss. Though, at higher levels, Katy can function as a healer.
So far, I count a ranger, a monk, a rogue, a caster of mysterious origins , and... whatever Tamar does...
