Dibs on Paladin. Now, I'll be a Paladin regardless, but can I use this actually decent variant? What books are allowed (if any beyond core)?
For now, pretty much anything goes books-wise, but I would appreciate people not bringing in too much crazy/out there stuff which might overwhelm or overpower the new folks who are sticking to the core. Team players and all.
This is my first post, and I'm glad it's towards a fun time of D&D. I look forward to being in this group, and in this online community.
Druids are awesome fun. You can get wildshape, turn into a badger, then get a feat that'll let you shoot your ice bolts at creatures while you're in badger shape. It's awesome. Plus, they're good healers. I'm gonna miss my druid.

Well Captain asked me if I'd be willing to be a Druid, and since it was Ranger and Druid i was debating between anyway, i said yes. Although i guess i should mention that my first choice is Wizard and I shyed away from it because Captain said he didn't think n00bs should be magic users. (and my response was i was disappointed that i wouldn't be able to get some use out of my wizard spells orgnized onto index cards...)
I would've gone for Cleric but I can't be confident I'll be consistently around/on top of the situation. I can be back-up cleric if we don't get a second. [edit]This is going to take me a while, can you tell?
Baba- If you want to be a druid, your highest stat should be WISDOM, not Dexterity. If you are fully prepared to be the party's main healer and take that responsibility, that's fine. That means you can't charge off half-cocked, and you have to worry about your party-members. Also, generally you keep your character sheet private. Its ok to show it to everyone, but people are under no obligation to show anyone but me their complete sheet. Some folks like having secrets, and this game is no exception. Katy- If you're conscientious enough to make spell-cards, you're probably an exception to the 'no n00bs as wizards' rule. PM me and tell me what kind of wizard you would want to be, we could use some heavy firepower. Kodiak- Get a character sheet together and PM it to me.
I don't mean to be critical, but shouldn't a person just kinda play their character and let the game sort out what happens? Like, if Baba is a poor cleric, other people in the party, like my character especially, would probably not be very kind to him, and the situation would remedy itself pretty quickly. Just kinda my thoughts on the matter.
... You're new, aren't you? Anyway, you're probably right. Baba's sticking with his rogue character, I think, so it's not an issue.
Ok, I'm confused, am i going to be a Druid or do i get to be a Wizard, or do we not know yet? I want to start making my character sheet. Edit: Never mind, I'm just going to go with a Half-Elf Druid.
Well, I'm just sitting back waiting until everyone's picked what they wanted. Are we sure baba's mental stats are above ten?
Baba actually rolled an awesome set of stats, so I wouldn't worry about him. Since Katy is playing a druid, that gives us a healer. Would you like to be the 'nuke'? Perhaps a high-magic paladin (I'm sure one exists).
I suppose I'll be a cleric, then. KJ rolled some nice stats for me the other night, but it may be a few days before I have a proper character sheet (read: can be bothered to investigate spells and skills and scales and such properly).
I have a couple of monks I could play or a half-ogre meat shield fighter. Let me know what works for the group. I'm pretty good at monks, but when you need a tank, a half-ogre with a 4' reach and a 6' sword is tough to beat
I'm going to say in your case, as an orphaned desert nomad, no. You have no elven ancestry. Being less than 50% elf confers no racial bonuses, and you're too tall to be even 1/4 elf. Just be content with being human.
You can always just role-play it that way. Every time you spot a secret door, make a dex check, make a save, or do ANYTHING 'elfy' just smile and say "My father's grandmother was an elf, you know". I've played in Chewie's campaigns before, and if you're true to your roleplaying you'll be rewarded with bonus XP or other goodies.
I think I am going to drop out. I've gotta learn before I can play, and I just can't fit it into my schedule at the moment.
