Okay, I want folks to know I started this without discussing it with mods or admins first. This is just to get a general feel for the level of interest in doing an RPGforge. I would offer my services as a Dungeon Master/Game Master. Everyone who is interested would make a character sheet (there's places you can do that) and host it online. I'll approve it and make sure you don't break the party. Then, once a week (probably saturday or sunday) we'll get into a DiceChat (an IRC with built-in dice rollers) and play a few hours of the campaign. So, what I'd like y'all to post here is the times and days you would be willing to commit to playing for the next two months. A big problem with these online RPGs is people joining and then dropping almost immediately, or coming in and out inconsistently. If you wanna play, you're in all the way. Also, if I'm going to design an adventure/campaign I need you guys to tell me what KIND of adventures you like; High fantasy, steampunk, hack-and-slash, gothic mystery, etc. I have some ready-made campaigns, including one that is a massive battle against the greatest evil in the universe across space, time, and dimensional planes. It takes a while to play out. So, who's interested? Unless there's a huge outcry we'll play under the D&D 3.5 system, though there ARE a number of folks pushing for a Firefly D20 rpg game, so I'm open to that.
Steampunk/Fantasy. The firefly d20 is not bad either, the link's http://wyrmwood.srgames.org/RPGs/Fireflyd20.pdf for anyone interested.
I think this is an excellent idea, although I'm afraid I won't be available regularly in a US-friendly timezone. But I would love to read what you guys come up with in play, and hereby vote that you post/make accessible your chatlogs.
Baba- You will not be captain, or party leader, and I'm seriously considering making you some sort of sentient fungus.
Any time on Saturday should work for me. I have read up on DnD, but never had a chance to actually play it, but i would love to.
I was just going to open my own board. Easier to get add-ons and stuff for RPGs if we have an RPG specific board.
I don't know enough about any of this to participate... but I wouldn't mind reading the logs of your game, if that's possible. I'm sure it'd make for interesting reading.
I don't really know how to play, but I'd love to learn. I already have the 3.5 core in print and in PDF. And I'm free on Sundays at around 3-8 or 9 usually. EST.
Absolutely. You guys can organize your own games and what not. How big's the group going to be? I'd like to play.
Alright, I'm sure it's still a few weeks until we can officially start. Chris, if you could PM me with specifics about how the board is set up, I'd like to go over some of the finer points of it with you. If new players want to start looking at D&D-3.5 character creation for ideas, that's great. I'll encourage people who aren't familiar with D&D to stick to the core races and classes. Magic-users should be fore the more experienced gamers.
Newbies are better off getting up in the monster's face than standing off and zapping it from a safe distance? OK . . . [edit]Are there at least Archers, then?
Yes. It is far harder to screw up 'hit the ogre with an axe' than it is to screw up 'which spells should I use so I don't accidentally friccassie my fellow adventurers. A stupid fighter gets himself killed. A stupid wizard can blow up everyone. And yes, there are archers, but in D&D you WILL get hit. You just aren't likely to die unless you screw up.
Baba should only write intelligent, relevant thoughts as complete sentences and not talk the rest of the time.
I trust you all to not cheat on your characters, but I will be approving your character sheets before the game. Anyone using a very unusual class which I feel is too advanced for them or which wouldn't fit into the campaign will be asked to make a new character. Or, if I see you making any big or unusual mistakes, I will siggest alternative choices. There's an online site where you can host character sheets, I'll try and find it tonight. Also, as a general 'house rule' of my own, everyone starts with maximum hit-points for their level, i.e. a Fighter with a constitution of 15 has 10 hit-points plus their con bonus, and a wizard with a constitution of 13 will just have 4. Don't forget to include any feats you may have.
I might jump in later, unfortunately the next couple of months are probably going to be too busy for me IRL. That said, if/when I come in I'll play a support character like a bard or cleric. Or mechanic if you're doing steam/cyberpunk. I often like sitting in the background and pulling everyone's asses out of the fire.
There's thousands of role playing games now. Hell, they made one for cartoon characters called Toon. D&D is at its core is a fantasy setting inspired by Tolkein, Leiber, and Vance, among others. Cyberpunk is the genre following William Gibson's writings, normally set in a near future dystopia with immersive net running, megacorps, street gangs and such. Steampunk is more of a Jules Verne concept, becoming popularized in the late 80s and 90s. It is a scifi setting based on Victorian principles, but often has rebellion against society as a theme.
