People who live further outside cities and need to drive longer distances get a disproportionate amount of resources put towards building roads for them. Surely it's time to abolish this leftist nonsense and reinstate equality where every area gets a set length of roads per head of population. Some bleeding hearts will argue that roads should be built based on need, and what will best support the people they are being built for, but that just sounds like communism to me.
All this talk of infrastructure spending on roads and bridges just leads me to the conclusion that the best financial decision is to remove more roads.
People talk about the need to maintain and upgrade roads without being able to list every road that needs attention. Very vague and suspicious imho.
I am still hoping for instant teleportation. The universe is inconveniently large. Even the speed of light is a bit slow if you consider it in the physical universe. The instantanious transport of matter would certainly be convenient. Due to the reality that it is probably not going to be related to speed I think we should be going other directions with our research.
There are plenty of cities that need new roads, which would probably just result in those cities becoming even more bloated population wise.
Which is just fine with me. The best part of the trip from Chicago to Omaha is I-88 - a toll road between Chicago and Iowa. Very few people are ever on that stretch of road. and that's just the way I like it.
As someone who lives in the urban core of a city, I hate that my tax dollars subsidize the suburban assholes that intentionally move further away from all the services of the city and then demand those services be brought to them anyway. Urban sprawl is a cancer. Stop building roads!
Yeah, damn them for not wanting to be stacked on top of each other in congested, crime-ridden shitholes.
Regardless of the decision, someone is going to be inconvenienced. The best way forward would be to put most people interests ahead with the least amount of inconvenience to anyone else. Period. Regardless of the topic. If you want roads, then you also accept that other people need things you do not and they are just as entitled as you are to the things you need.
About that, you know why there's so much crime downtown? Crackheads and hobos and recently released criminals. You know why there are so many crackheads and hobos and recently released criminals? Because the safe injection sites and homeless shelters and halfway houses are all clustered together downtown, and any attempt to spread them out is shut down by pricey lobbyists. Yet another example of wealthy suburban assholes making me and my neighbors subsidize their cushy lifestyles.
