The second you ask that this kid be handled any differently than his classmates, you are demanding special treatment. There is no justification for that in this instance.

I knew a few kids that felt that way and they are in no was confused about theri gender. My daughter had a nice doll house. If male friends were over they might have played with it together.

What you speak of is somewhat rare. Interest in so-called girl toys is not necessarily an indication that yhey have gender issues.

I actually tried to push boy toys on my daughter. mainly cuz I wanted to play with them with her. (remote trucks, racetracks). But my girl was a very girly girl. So I had to do many tea parties and playing the Dad or brother with a male doll.

Why should the fact that he was born with a penis dictate how he should behave?

Ahem...."Then he should be treated exactly like every other student who was born with a penis. No special accommodation whatsoever."

Out of your own mouth, Albert. So again, answer my fucking question -- Why should the fact that he was born with a penis dictate how he should behave?

You're "freaking out" over the very idea that this child would have the gall to show up to school dressed in anything other than masculine attire. Your opinion is quite crystal clear that you have no problem with the kid being bullied and beat up until he conforms to YOUR view of society.

    I just did.

I don't ask for him to be treated any differently. I don't think any kid should be bullied or harassed because they may act different, regardless of who they are.

There, now you have a nice blanket coverage.

Why should the 10,001st victim of an affliction get more accomodation that the first?

Never heard of one that was only 7 years old, which is presumably why this story is newsworthy.

Either that or the first ten thousand parents with a child like this didn't try to dictate to the public how they have to behave around them.

 I don't really see how it's treating the kid differently if they're calling the kid by the name the parents tell them to call the kid by. That's how it works with all students. The kids show up in clothes and as long as it doesn't violate dress codes (e.g. not revealing, tobacco or alcohol related, gang related, etc.) the school has nothing to do with it. That's how it works with all students.

I agree the kid shouldn't get special treatment (i.e. unisex bathrooms, extra attention to prevent bullying), but I don't see why they can't call the kid by the name they want and let the kid wear the clothing.

I know I said I didn't want my kid around this transgender mug but check this.

OK, the kid is in school and goes to play with the girls and wants then to see him as a girl. That would be almost impossible.

I think almost every little girl will be like :wtf:

Let little miss transgender wink at one boy...its over!

Then your kid come home with all the questions. Fughedaboudit! Not every parent is able to handle that.

If he doesn't want to be singled out by others, he shouldn't single himself out with his own behavior.

    You complete fucking imbecile. :jayzus:

The fact that he should receive the same treatment as everyone else doesn't require him to behave differently. He can act however he wants, but he cannot expect anyone not to react to it, and he has no unique privileges not afforded anyone else.

No, I'm objecting to the notion that he should receive any special attention, treatment or accommodations. Big fucking difference, asshole.

Either you can show where I specifically advocated beating him up, or you are a lying sack of rat shit. You and I both know which can be proven.

The honest portrayal of my position is that he shouldn't expect to act differently without being looked at differently.

    FAIL.

Then he will be referred to as "male," required to use the boy's restroom, and no more shielded from taunting than any other student, which is to say not at all.

Well, want in one hand and shit in the other.

In the real world, kids make fun of each other. In the real world, adults have the freedom to speak their minds. In the real world, this kid and his special little feelings are just as unimportant as everyone else's. Anyone expecting a gold star and a pat on the back for shit like this is on some serious fucking drugs.

I know gay people who swear blind they knew they were gay long before the age of 7 or 8, so I'm not buying the argument that he 'can't possibly' know he's transgendered.
OTOH, lots of girls go through a tomboy phase - I certainly did - but it never meant I wanted to be a boy.
It's just a shame that our society is so hung up on masculinity issues that a boy who wants to wear a dress is seen as such a threat. Nobody cared when I wore jeans all the time...

I think a tranny in the classroom is a beautiful thing. Compulsory Public Schools should be a place where every child regardless of race, gender, and IQ is crammed into an classroom and taught diversity, tolerance, and civil obedience.

The name is fine, the clothing is fine, but building him a new bathroom, requiring everyone to call a kid with a penis a "girl," or sheltering him from ridicule in a way not afforded all other students, is not. Learning to deal with insults and insensitivity is part of growing up, and this kid sounds like he's gonna need those lessons more than most.

Some years back I worked for Private Banking. The group I was with was small. I was the Admisistrative Assistant to 3 VPs. In the mail I often found clothing catalogs addressed to Carole Smith. So I asked about her. I wonder if she was hot cust it was swimsuit and dress catalogs.

They would not say a thing about her. Then I found an old picture of the group. I saw no one named Carole but I did see a guy named Carl. Carl had a sex change operation and the company and that group had to jump through many legal hoops to ensure fair treatment of that employee.

I was latter told it was the hell of all hells having to deal with this person going through this change.

You don't have to see it as a "threat" to acknowledge the fact that this is not a very sensible thing for a 7 year old to do.

Being aware of differences and tolerating their existence does not mean sheltering people from things that might hurt their delicate little feelings.

I've supported my case completely. You come back with nothing but hollow emotional rhetoric about forced conformity and inclusion. You'll forgive me if I don't take your word for that.

Okay BlackDove, an actual question to you:

Everyone here knows about my condition (one arm, trolling Anna, etc), but then again I can perform feats in martial arts that many two-armed persons cannot do. I am also, on average, smarter than a lot of two-armed person I know.

I have also always wanted to be an astronaut. Given the proper training and my sheer force of will, I know I can make quite an effective astronaut.

But I know that I cannot because of my affliction. Maybe I can be a great astronaut BUT I can never be as effective as one with two arms. Does it sometimes sadden me? Yes. But do I wail and cry over it? No.

But now, if I apply, suppose.. should NASA or any other space agency jump through hoops to 'accomodate' me at the annoyance and perhaps peril of all the other astronauts/engineers/scientists that work there, simply because my feelings are hurt?

    Can you answer that question?

darkstryke, is this your child? Do your children attend this school? Do you pay taxes in Highland Park, Colorado?

Do you seriously believe that anything in this article endangers the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, or even the country you live in?

Will anything in this article cause your dick to fall off?

IOW, does this teeny tiny little slow-day "news item" affect you in any way?

    Didn't think so.

    Cue neg reps...

Honestly, are we required to use science to answer this or can we rest the question if it doesn't pass the laugh test.

So can we. We just don't have the ability to aim.

Mind you, every woman who has ever shared a house with a male of any age will know they don't always have good aim, either. ;)

And we know for a fact that no one ever rationalizes or justifies themselves by speaking anything less than the truth....right?

No one ever deludes themselves into thinking things were a way that they really were not just so they are more at peace with themselves?

    How do we really know?

Which is why I followed up that sentence with the OTOH about never wanting to be male despite my tomboy phase.
Frankly, I really don't know what should happen in this case. Except that the kid should get shedloads of therapy.
