Quite frankly, there are too many people comfortable with a white former marine, Daniel Penny, executing a death sentence on a black homeless man for having the temerity to be upset that he's hungry, thirsty, homeless, and desperate. Anyone who sees what the marine did as justifiable is not a well person. My opinion, of course, but seriously, far, far too much "yeah, it's sad but he was no angel" energy going on here with some folks that we always see when a black man is murdered for existing. Granted, it's mostly @Uncle Albert, who hates everyone who doesn't conform to his notion of freedom (which is usually just die quietly out of my way), and @Jenee, who just doesn't care, but even the news outlets are in on it, with NBC using a quote claimed to be said by Neely, but was found to be given by a police officer who made the claim, one who arrived after Neely was already unconscious. The system will always protect itself, and we have to be mindful of that.
I totally forgot that the length of a chokehold needed to subdue someone is dependent on the crime rate in the locale where it occurred. Silly me.
it's amazing that i work with women who are five foot nothing who can deescalate EXACTLY this sort of person in this sort of situation. And yes, while there are an increase of subway attacks, there's no suggestion in this article they're being perpetrated by the unhoused or those with mental health issues (although there is one mention of a gun used to rob a fare collector). Maybe he should stick to the presented facts or shut up?
Are you out of your mind? The only purpose of government is to be mean to people. Point guns at bad guys. Lock troublemakers away. Tax your citizens. Litter your major highways with construction zones for the entire summer. Make your children sit in boring buildings all day to teach them stupid things like literacy and science and being nice to weird-looking people. That's why small government is best. Inflict government on those who deserve to get it, and no further. A government that's nice to the people it represents? At best that's my tax money being spent on something more than the bare minimum. Or it's something that should be left to private industry, because nice things are by definition outside government's competence. At worst it's outright socialism. Imagine seriously imagining a government that's actually, unironically here to help. Pfft, as if.
