Dear John, We greatly appreciate your time, patience, and effort with respect to our recent negotiations and discussions relative to a summit long sought by both parties, which was scheduled to take place on June 12 in Singapore. We were informed that the meeting was requested by North Korea, but that to us is totally irrelevant. l was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting. Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place. You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used. I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only that dialogue that matters. Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you. In the meantime, I want to thank you for the release of the hostages who are now home with their families. That was a beautiful gesture and was very much appreciated. If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write. The world, and North Korea in particular, has lost a great opportunity for lasting peace and great prosperity and wealth. This missed opportunity is a truly sad moment in history.
I'm ridiculing today's critics who also cried about what an idiot Trump was when he set up the meeting in the first place. Which is it? Meeting bad? Meeting good? Between point A (when NK was threatening the world with talk backed by deeds) and point B (today), are things better or worse? Doesn't really matter - all that does matter: hate Trump.
The meeting with trump would have been priceless in terms of pithy idiotic soundbites. In that sense it would have been good.
It was a dumb idea to agree to the meeting precisely because it was obvious the whole thing would blow up in his face the way it did.
Perhaps. But only in the opinion of some. Others analyzed it as 'probably better than more of the same that got us to where we are today.' In fact Reagan was mocked more when he admonished 'Gorby, tear down this wall.' Anti-conservative press and their regurgitators have a long tradition of poo pooing any efforts by the "right", particularly when efforts go beyond more capitulation and can-kicking packaged with empty-but-harsh-sounding words and self-congratulations of their diplomatic victory that gave away the house in exchange for what turned out to be some beans. It's basically the same "hate Trump" mantra packaged with flavor of the day.
I'm not sure I understand why the Administration kept trotting out Libya. I think if I were trying to get NK to come to the table and give up their nukes in exchange for security, I'd be hoping nobody involved remembered that Gaddafi ever existed.
Horrible? Hell no its fucking hilarious! Bolton, Trump and Pompeii are the new version of the Three Stooges! Nyuck nyuck nyuck!
Yabut what Pence said made even less sense. "If you denuclearize, we'll protect you. If you don't denuclearize, you'll suffer the same fate as Gaddafi...who, by the way, took the same offer and denuclearized."
I think the critics are saying they expected the summit to not take place...because the Kims have been doing this for generations. Only thing is it was Trump that called it off. I don't think anybody saw that coming.
Meanwhile: North Korea Responds to Trump's Cancellation of Summit Kim Jong Un is still willing to meet with Trump, according to new statement Pretty funny in a macabre sort of way that one of the world's last dictators is at least playacting at conciliation while the "Leader of the Free World" is throwing tantrums.
By sounds of it, the US sent a party to a pre-arranged meet with an NK party, and NK just didn't bother turning up. I don't blame the US for cancelling, but still offering an olive branch, in that case. I do blame them for constantly referencing Libya and being shocked at the resulting effect on NK. At least we now know the collective noun for a group of Trump officials - a dysfunction.
Trump - we might still meet! I'm sorry I hurt you baby! Call me XXX!!! Oh, and did he mention he's a playa?!
Rapidly back pedalling..."uh, wait, forget Libya and look at how we reached a deal with Iran. That gave them more connection to the rest of the world in exchange for nuclear concessions and that's turning our well for th...OH HE JUST DID WHAT?"
CIA report says North Korea won't denuclearize, but might open a burger joint https://www.nbcnews.com/news/north-...h-korea-won-t-denuclearize-might-open-n878201 Art of the deal!
