A friend of mine was a long time anchor at one of the Montgomery stations and developed a friendship with Wallace during his time there. He spoke very highly of the man because of his eventual change of heart.

A friend of mine worked for WAKA in the late '90s before becoming Press Secretary for the Governor. The honest truth is that Governor Wallace was a racism success story. He changed. He wouldn't have won his last gubernatorial bid if it wasn't for the African-American community's support.

He convinced black voters, who had every right to be skeptical, that he was sincere and that he wanted to do right by Alabama's poor people. I remember seeing an interview with an elderly black gentleman who said that if George Wallace really was going to help poor people, there were more black folks who were poor in Alabama than any others, so he was going to vote for him. Wallace knew all along that white supremacy was bullshit and finally decided it was time to make things right.

I've pointed out repeatedly he said this exact shit in a 60 Minutes interview, and no one here cared.

In regards to the thread title, they won't until the moment he can't do anything else for them, at which point they'll pretend they didn't support him or only begrudgingly did so not realising how bad he was.

That's why it's so important to make sure they can't do that, and we see them for the enabling shits they are.

Depends on who you're talking about.

People like McConnell, Graham and Cruz? Yeah, they'll only stick with him as long as it's in their interests.

But the cultists? A lot of them have never stood to benefit from anything he did, and it didn't matter as long as he kept shitting on the blacks and the immigrants and pwning the libs.

It will be interesting to find out who was a true cultist and who was just an opportunist, though.

Miller’s the kind of evil that you don’t care how he gets stopped, so long as he is stopped. Yeah, it’d suck if he was taken out by having a plane load of kids crash into him but given if he had his way he’d be stuffing kids into ovens, it’s better than the alternative.

After further thought, this belongs in both threads:

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/biden...-event-after-pro-trump-ambush-on-campaign-bus

John McCain would never have done this. Nor Mitt Romney. Nor George (H.)W. Bush, or even Ronald Reagan.

Given what we're seeing from the GOP, including Trump judges, in the last month or so - it ain't just him who's decided this is the moment to go full fascist

There is no level too low for Republicans.

Anything, everything, is excusable to maintain minority rule over America.

Yes, in a sense. It means that the people as a whole didn't choose him, but only those in his party. It's still scary as concerns his party, though...
