Case in point: the calls for arresting Mike Brown's stepfather for telling the crowd to "burn this bitch down." /thread
Of course. It's "criticism" when you approve of it, and "stirring up hate and resentment" when you don't.
Some folks aren't willing to admit that some problems actually exist. The "real problem" to them is anyone that complains about or even mentions the original problem. Archie is more upset about black people protesting racism than any actual incidents of racism against blacks. Dicky doesn't seem to spend much time worrying about sexism or misogyny, but he sure does have endless criticisms about any woman that points out examples of sexism or misogyny in the media.
He instigated riots and arson in which a dozen business were burned and one person died. That's a very serious crime. If you read the Mother Jones article, it's giving examples from the right but then calling those examples stupid to point to as an equivalent. For an actual equivalent you'd need to find mass demonstrations with white people holding up signs that say something like "Stop a race. Death to blacks." Meanwhile Bill de Blasio's office is now slamming the police who turned their back on him, saying "It’s unfortunate that in a time of great tragedy, some would resort to irresponsible, overheated rhetoric that angers and divides people," Yeah, that's exactly what Bill de Blasio had been doing to piss off every cop in New York.
Interesting, since I posted in this very thread that the system is part of the problem. Since you either missed it or no doubt didn't get it, that means I'm not using a double standard. Both events are part of the same flawed system. Now, if you really want to see the extent of your embarrassment, go read the Ferguson and Garner threads. Go read my posts, which are mostly sympathetic to the cops. You are arguing out of your ass, making up things that haven't been said, in order to score some kind of political point that is manifestly invalid. Do your reputation a favor, and shut the fuck up. Adults are talking in this thread.
Absolutely essential reading for all Americans: http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Warrior-Cop-Militarization-Americas-ebook/dp/B00B3M3UFQ/ Thanks to @shootER for recommending the book a few months ago.
A really good piece here about going down the rabbit hole of blaming every tragedy on political rhetoric. It does appear there was a link in this case, but at the end of the day individuals are still the ones responsible for their actions. Its long but well worth the read.
I don't know if that is a great example as a reasonable person could interprit that as inciting a riot.
Liberals on mass shootings by crazies: "Guns! Blame the guns! And gun owners!!" Liberals when cops get shot after weeks of race-baiting and anti-cop rhtoric: "Blame no one but the individual who did the deed."
FOX affiliate caught faking "kill a cop" chant. http://gawker.com/slimy-baltimore-fox-affiliate-caught-faking-kill-a-cop-1674040381 But remember, it's the protesters that are whipping up hate and hysteria.
I sometimes think Fox isn't even trying to hide it any more. They know their brain damaged followers will believe any horse shit they put on the screen and dismiss actual facts and evidence as liberal conspiracies.
FOX affiliate ≠ Murdoch's company. Though in this case the station is owned by Sinclair, which is possibly an even more right-partisan company than News Corp. >EDITED< to add that this particular Sinclair has a stellar journalistic reputation, which makes this incident seem pretty curious to me.
Don't be a dumbass. People can and will blame guns. Don't confuse that for a conversation regarding whether it was the guy who pulled the trigger, or the guy who said something that made cops angry.
Aside from anything else, the killing of those 2 policemen was a hate crime! That screwball made a POINT of targeting & executing 2 cops SIMPLY for the fact that they were COPS, to satisfy his morbid hate-filled bloodlust. Plus, earlier today I saw a report that before he murdered those 2 policemen, he had shot his girlfriend trying to murder her.
You can't blame the NYPD for being upset. For weeks they've been told by the mayor that they're the problem and he soft pedals "protests" where they get assaulted. There are warnings that the rhetoric is going to produce a tragedy and behold it does in fact. I think people misinterpret the role of police as that in some way the police who risk their lives are in fact supposed to put the lives of civilians (including criminals) AHEAD of their own lives. This is not in fact how they value their lives versus those of civilians. They will "risk" their lives to protect civilians.....but they will not simply throw them away on behalf of civilians.
This from a guy who lives where cops very rarely kill citizens and citizens very rarely kill cops. Not to say you don't have a dog in this fight, but you really don't. Policing in your country versus ours? Apples and umbrellas.
What did deBlasio say, other than that he gave his son the obvious advice of cooperating with the police?
I think the tragedies started when the Staten Island cops murdered Eric Garner. Let's not forget that. This lunatic went off and assassinated two cops because he's a lunatic, not because of anything Bill de Blasio says.
Good news, the shooters ex-girlfriend is expected to survive. You guys did know he shot his ex-girlfriend before going after the two cops, right? That he was clearly insane from the start, right? http://jezebel.com/ex-girlfriend-of-nypd-shooter-expected-to-survive-1674224521
Yet Bill de Blasio's freight train of fail rolls on. Today he lashed out at the press for sowing "divisiveness" by covering the protests.
Murdered Eric Garner? So it was premeditated, they had an agenda, they had a motive, etc? They tried to arrest him. He resisted. Maybe the cops screwed it up, but I'm guessing that they didn't cook up a scheme to kill him. They didn't single him out from anyone else. The crazy who killed the cops was hell-bent on killing cops and even expressed his desires publicly.
