Okay, so I hear there's a million hippies and commies squatting Wall Street. Why so little discussion? Seems the Army and Marines have been called in to keep order too...
I wish I thought this was going to accomplish anything but the pissing off of motorists and wasting more taxpayer money via law enforcement and military presence.
REMEMBER KENT STATE! No I mean seriously. Why hasn't anyone shot a couple of these guys yet? That'll clear the streets PDQ.
Not seeing anywhere in either article where Tea Party is referenced at all. I am seeing fifty plus ages though which would make them old hippies.
From what I read, the numbers that came out where a lot smaller than they'd expected, maybe 1% of what they'd been hoping for.
There is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kShTUmYRyCw BTW get those hippies off the bridge! I just bought it yesterday...Why I oughta charge em' rent!
You see old hippies, I see points! Hit the fuckers. Then there are less people to protest and mooch off government aid.
I'm torn. On the one hand, hippies just piss me off. On the other, something needs to be done about the Wall Street criminals because the politicians sure as fuck aren't doing anything.
The versions I heard were that it is an organized effort at subversion, targetting Wall Street for all the perceived corruption in banking and financial sectors. As a secondary target, they are exposing the current "police state" America is living in, by using and actual NY state law that allows public camping and habitation on sidewalks as part of nonviolent demonstration. youtube link to /anon/ message
They're trying to organize one in Seattle. So far it's pretty pathetic. 50 people at a protest... in Seattle. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2016378830_protest02m.html
It's not just liberals protesting here. There's also conservatives who have gotten fed up with being poor. I have several conservative friends on Facebook who are planning on attending these protests, should they happen in their cities. I like the idea that the people can protest capitalism's nasty greed. But can anything really change because of them? I think the question here isn't whether liberal hippies are demanding too much. The question here is, since there are people all over the political spectrum protesting, how far do they have to go before someone listens, and even then, would any positive changes happen? What exactly are they demanding? What do they think they're going to get? This is an interesting movement to follow.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2016378830_protest02m.html[/QUOTE] someone shared a ink for "Occupy Birmingham" on Facebook - i'm wondering if THAT one will get into double figures lol.
call me cynical - but ima guess NOTHING changes except the mechanism unless the whole system collapses. Reform the current rules, and the current rich guys will still be rich and they will find a way to use those resources to game the next system just like this one. There's pretty much always been some of them and a lot of us - it's the way the world works.
So, they want a hand-out? A conservative would spend more time working and less time protesting if they needed more money. Make good personal fiscal decisions. Not everybody can be rich and have a fancy house, a fancy, car, fancy clothes, etc. I am poor but I got everything I want because I don't want much.
Wall Street doesn't care. They think this is funny. Pay particular attention after :55 in. [YT="Protest & Wall Street response"]2PiXDTK_CBY[/YT] :sip:
No, I think there is a legitimate complaint to be made, by normally conservative folks as well as liberals that the economy is not working efficiently in a way that allows a broader opportunity for the average person to climb the economic ladder. that does not have to be a plea for a hand out because they complain about lack of opportunity to better themselves. The difference I think is that from the right, the argument is that ultimately, poor choice in the government create the situation. Even if that results in some taking unfair advantage of the monstrosity they created. From the left, the argument would be that the same folks who created the problem are now the ones who need to correct the behavior of the monster they created. but just because they disagree thus does NOT mean that only left wing pinkos wanting a free ride have aught to complain about.
As long as we keep outsourcing jobs and manufacturing to overseas then there isn't going to be any good life for the working class. The Federal government is the key reason that this is going on. The cripple business in this country with so much extra costs, rules, etc.
So, Andrew Tuttle has a house....homeless family obviously does not have a house...............what to do, what to do........is it just me or is there an obvious quick-fix to this particular situation?
So, a bunch of leftists protesting crony capitalism and big-business bailouts aren't getting the support they'd hoped, and instead end up annoying some people at most. It's too bad they've spent the past year or so demonizing the Tea Partiers who are also against cronyism and bailouts; they might have had more friends.
